C2 of Year Finalist (track prepared) 2019
Hi Guys,
I am new here.
Recently took delivery of what I understand to be D&D Grand Sport Replica #111.
How can I definitively identify this as a D&D Replica?
Have been a Grand Sport fan since I saw my first Grand Sport in the Corvette Corral, at Bloomington Gold back in 1985.
Looking forward to learning more about this particular car, as well as all Grand Sports!

Typically (but not always) D&D Grand Sports have a VIN plate attached either to the driver's side door pillar or to the driver's side frame tube in the engine compartment. Does your car have a VIN plate in either of these locations?
In 2004 a D&D Grand Sport identified as DDGS0111 was listed on EBay and located in Texas. The car was unfinished at the time and biding did not meet the reserve. Constructed on a Sting Ray chassis, this is how it looked:
This could be your car. Is yours built on a Sting Ray frame?

I'd say you have a D&D GS.

Here is what I know.
It is not a tube chassis car.
I believe it is built on a '76 Corvette chassis.
I live in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago.
I took delivery of this car last month, from a dealer in Florida.
I believe he took it in trade as part of a deal with the previous owner.
The car was titled as a Chev. Replica in North Carolina.
I had found some PICS of this car , still unpainted out in Ladera Ranch California around 2015/2016.
This matches paperwork that I have, stating that the engine was built in California.
I will be trying to reach the previous owner, not been successful yet.
I have a PIC of the D&D VIN plate, however it is attached to the dash below the glovebox opening .
It looks like it could have been made by any one, because it has no manufacturer identifying marks, or anything.
Thanks for your information, and interest !

I think this car has gotten around.
My name is Burk, and I live in the far Northwest suburbs of Chicago.
I took delivery of this car, last month from a dealer in Florida.
I believe he took it in trade on another deal, from the previous owner.
The car was titled in North Carolina.
I had seen some unfinished PICS of this car, placing it for sale, unpainted , out in Ladera Ranch California, about 2015/2016.
This matches some paperwork I have showing, the engine being built out in California.
It is not a tube chassis car, I believe it is built on a '76 Corvette chassis.
I have the D&D VIN tag, it is placed just below the glovebox opening on the dash.
It looks like it could have been made by anyone, since it bears no manufacturer logo or any identifying marks.
Also it seems odd to me that #111 would not be a tube chassis car, considering that 134 were built, and this would not have been an early car.
Thanks for your PIC, and you information!

Hi again.
My name is Burk.
I live in the far Northwest suburbs of Chicago.
Here is what I know about this GS.
I took delivery of this car last month, from a classic car dealer in Florida.
I believe he took it in trade, on another deal with the previous owner.
The title was in North Carolina.
The PIC you showed, is close to PICS I had found showing this car for sale (still unpainted), from Ladera Ranch California, about 2015/2016.
This also matches paperwork I have, showing the current engine as being built in California.
I have a VIN tag, but it is mounted on the dash, below the glovebox opening.
It looks like anyone could have made it , since there is no type of manufacturer ID on it, just a stamped aluminum plate.
This is not a tube chassis car.
I believe it is built on a '76 Corvette chassis.
Seems odd to me that #111 would not be a tube chassis, being that it is not an early car.
I understand that 134 D&D Grand Sports were built.
Thanks for your info,
Burk

We owned the original D&D tube frame GS prototype. Nowhere on our car was there any mark which identified its origin either. The VIN didn't even include "DDGS" or anything remotely similar.

Sorry for the multiple posts. . Wasn’t sure how long it takes a post to show up. The number of 134 D&D Grand Sports being built, is something I saw in multiple Grand Sport sale ads. . . May have just been picked up somewhere and repeated.

I doubt that anyone knows the exact number of D&D Grand Sports produced.

I have a couple more questions.
What are more cues that would verify that this is a D&D?
I have more PICS as well.
The rear brake scoops are canted a little outboard, I understand that this is a cue.
I am understanding that the D&D molds were pulled from an original Grand Sport.
Is this the case?
Are any of the D&D people around anymore to contribute information, or have they dropped off the radar?
If this is D&D #111, can it be placed in any time frame, as to when it was originally built?

Still being new here, WOW this thread has been around for quite some time!
I'm a few years behind in my reading of this thread, but catching up.
Saw a scan of an early MAI brochure.
I have a couple of old MAI Brochures, one of which I picked up at Bloomington Gold, back in 1985.
This is when I first became aware of GS Replicas, and quite frankly, started getting pretty cranked up about all things Grand Sport.
I scanned them and here they are.
I also have a couple of price lists, that accompanied these Brochures, if any one is interested.
If I am not mistaken, I believe the brochure car pictured, was present at Bloomington, that year.

Meadowdale International Raceway
I live near the defunct Meadowdale International Raceway, now Raceway Woods, located near Carpentersville, IL.
It was active from 1958 to 1969.
I have am wondering if any Grand Sports ever raced there.
I have searched for information and images, and have seen some articles that suggest they may have been there, but nothing definitive.
Just curious, wondering if anyone here has even heard of Meadowdale.

The latests, who makes the best intake for LS or LT engine platforms?
Hello:
Its been a little while, and I was wanting to know if there had been any new developments for the Intakes for the LS/LT platforms that look a lot like the one in this picture. I am close to being able to get the engine made for the car and would like to find the best performing and looking engine to go in the Bay of my car.
Thanks,
Ty O'Neal

My GS #004 (Last Post)
Hi guys. This is likely my last thread start, so I just wanted to thank all those that answered my novice questions.
I redid the headers to raise them up to the correct height, with that the car's done. Look for it in the next months Vette Vues magazine and a few "vette" car shows out west.
