I guess I'm just getting old. After, years of "enjoying" the noise I'm pulling mine off this week. I'm replacing them with the CC N11 exhaust. I think it'll still sound aggressive without me going deaf. The car didn't originally come with side pipes and I don't think they were put on properly to begin with. I think that would account for the over abundance of rattles. Good luck with your decision.

?? Never had that problem. The shields are usually warm/mildly hot to the touch at best, but have never been not enough to burn. Did you remove the fiberglass shield/insulation on the backside of the cover?

The fiberglass insulation panel is still in place between the exhaust pipe and the outer shield. Parades are a problem, they get pretty hot.

Mine get very warm including the door sills but not enough to hurt anyone. If your engine runs lean it might raise the temp a little.

By the way - nice picture Cobrastang.

The amount of noise from the side pipes is affected by the engine as well. Before I ordered my '67, I rode in a '66 Vette with side pipes and the 327/300 and it wasn't very loud (for a 23 year-old in 1966). Ordered my '67 with side pipes as a result (also with the 427/435). It was a lot louder due to the early opening of the exhaust valves with the longer duration camshaft.
