Re: 61 F.I. stalling & hard starting (agd61)
i ran extra ground wires on my 61. Battery to dash, and to rear lamps, and -to frame. I still have original wires. Can't have too many grounds.
Good idea on the starter ground strap.
i had a 51 chevy fastback. junked it ~1970. :cry

Re: 61 F.I. stalling & hard starting (drives61)
OK, changed the cables, added the ground to the bell housing to frame, check ign. switch term. and connections. But when I removed the + cable from the solenoid, that main terminal was very lose on the soleniod side. Tightened that up. Car is running good now, but it was intermittent anyway. I will take it out to a Vette cruise-in nest Sunday and hope AAA doesn't need to come out.
Thanks all again for the advice...

Hopefully the loose wire at the solenoid corrected your problem. The reason I have kept harping about the ignition switch and associated wiring/connectors is that all the power( except the 12V start circuit to the output side of the ballast resistor) feeds from the solenoid to the ignition switch, via the ammeter. It is distributed from the switch to the various circuits, including lights, horn, etc.
