Unfortunately, CA is among the highest in the US. Used to live in Sacto and gas is generally .50/gal higher than Nashville. When gas got to 4 bucks is when I saw the economy stop. Not that things were all that good before that but I think that was the last straw, or at least it sure seemed that way. Where's our savior now?

My 58 used to get 20 mpg, but the carb is so worn out (even after rebuild) that mileage sucks. I have a new Elderbrock, but it's not a standard bore, and I'm having trouble finding a manifold that will use the new carb with an oil fill tube in it. Maybe I should get the old manifold machined?

87 octane jumped a dime from Thursday night to Friday a.m. - $3.199, with 93 octane $3.499 Guess the Vette (15.5mpg on 93) and the "PinkLinc" (10mpg on 93) won't get too many miles added to the odometer in 2011...

Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less
Obama Wants to Tax Energy Companies for Not DrillingBy Steve Everley on February 18, 2011 1:48 PM
Alternate headline: Lucy now charging Charlie for not kicking the football.
The Obama administration, which has hamstrung domestic energy production through drilling bans and senseless permitting delays, now wants to punish companies for not producing domestic energy, according to the President's latest budget proposal.
Specifically, President Obama wants to impose a $4-per-acre fee for existing leases held by oil and gas companies that are currently not producing any oil or gas. The motivation behind the proposal is that energy companies are deliberately holding on to the rights to drill but not doing so in order to drive up prices. The administration thus claims that the proposal is designed to "encourage more timely production."
Such a belief borders on the absurd, especially when you consider that it's the Obama administration that has been actively discouraging timely production through its numerous misguided policies... more »

Top Five Things Obama Has Done to Raise Gasoline PricesBy Steve Everley on January 3, 2011 2:12 PM
With gasoline currently above $3 per gallon nationwide and economists expecting that price to rise even further in 2011, America should be getting serious about producing more of its own resources. But instead of focusing on how to bring more relief to American motorists, President Obama has imposed massive new regulations, restrictions, and even threatened higher taxes on American energy, all of which negatively impact domestic production.
What follows is a list of the five most egregious actions on the part of the Obama administration that have contributed to higher gasoline prices and greater dependence on foreign dictators for our energy:
Cancelling existing permits: Immediately after taking office in 2009, President Obama's handpicked Secretary of the Department of Interior, Ken Salazar, canceled 77 leases for oil and gas drilling in Utah... more »

I do not plan to drive 1 tenth of a mile less on any of the cars based on fuel cost.
The only thing bad about it will be the continuous "gas prices" threads that will be posted in every generation on the Forum all Summer.
We can block certain posters; any way to block certain topics?

$3.00 a gallon or $10 a gallon. I really don't care. I'll drive as much as I want and the cost of fuel won't dictate how far.
Blaming the president for the price of oil is about as narrow minded as you can get. The picture is MUCH, MUCH bigger and U.S. policies have little to do with it. Try looking GLOBALLY.

Best deal in 45-50 years
I went to get gas/car wash in my SSR last week – inserted credit card – selected type and inserted hose. Getting car wash with gas reduces gas price by .10¢ per gallon. As the gas was pumping I glanced at the price per gal and it look kind of funny. I adjusted my glasses and it read .199 --- Something must be wrong then I look at price-to-pay and it was about $2.00 after 10 gallon I squeezed every last drop I could get in the tank.
17.925 gallons for $3.57
The receipt also read $.10 per gal discount
The car wash was $4.00 for a grand total of $7.57.
I waited a couple of days and checked my CC balance online and the charge was $7.57.
I can only believe that they have fixed that pump by now.
That was the prices when I pumped gas in High School in the 50's
