Default end links

I cant get my new end links on. Is the car supposed to be on the ground when you do this? I have the front end on jack stands and I was trying to put the jack under the lower a-arm and raise it a little but not working. I know before I started this project a while back that the previous owner had the sway bar on upside down but I think I have it the right way now?

Ive been looking at this and the real problem is that the stupid threaded section at the top is way shorter then the original. I got the energy suspension links from ZIP. Since the threaded section is so much shorter I cant get enough of it out thru the top to get the nut started, if it was 1/4" longer i wouldnt have a problem.
