Default Tach drive distributor - 65 L79

Can you recommend a good, over-the-counter tach drive, vacuum advance distributor (w/points is okay) that can be installed right out the box and the car will perform as it's suppose to? Or do all need to be bench checked on a sun machine? I don't have the shielding yet but it'll come in time so the distributor needs to be compatible.

Anyone have experience with the reproduction distributors offered by Volunteer Vette, Corvette Central or Mid America? I know they're pricey.

If I choose to go the rebuild route, can a 1111490 be converted to a 1111087?

Thanks,

If the core you re using does not need major work (housing bushings, main shaft replacement) then rebuilding it to 1087 specs is an excellent option. If you need a source to do this work I will be happy to give you a contact.

I'm in the same boat too. I'm looking for a replacement stock/ over the counter distributor that is a tach drive. One that I could drop in, connect to the tach on my '62 and cover with my ignition shielding. Wouldn't this be the same Tach drive distributor - as a 65 L79 has? And what distributor is part # 1111087?

The 1111087 is the part no. of the delco remy tach distributor for the 65 L79 (327/350 hp).

From personal experience I can confirm my 65 distributor will fit my 62. After that successful test, I bought a mid 60s corvette distributor with a vacuum advance and stuck it in my 62 to replace the original dual point, mechanical-advance-only distributor. Fits under the stock ignition shielding with no problems.

Any Delco Remy 63-74 tach drive distributor will work. One only needs to setup the correct curve and matchup the appropriate VAC.

Almost any distributor will require dialing in. Mech advance, vac advance etc.. Therefore the Sun machine is still strongly suggested.

If you know how? You can do it with your distributor in the car, It takes quite a few R&Rs to get it right.

Default Tach drive distributors

Nelson Specialties in Mooresville, NC can service your distributor. They also have units for sale. I bought a '62 dual point delco unit from them. It is a gem
