Actually, close-ratio or wide-ratio doesn't matter - both have 1:1 4th gear, same as 3rd for a 3-speed. The usage is just stated that way because the 3.70 was the standard ratio with the 350/365/375hp engines, all of which came with the close-ratio 4-speed (the 250 and 300hp engines ordered with 4-speeds came with the wide-ratio box).

Powerglide came with a 3.36, with 3.08 as the economy option; higher (numerical) ratios than 3.36 weren't available with Powerglide.

3.08 was standard, 3.36 was optional.

wondering what mine has. LRW 174 E1. Thanks bud. By the way, where do you find the decoder for these letters and numbers? The Julian date I can figure out, but not the gear ratio itself.

Start a new thread and ask your question. You are answering a 6 year old post in a thread that should have been in a different section anyway.
