I had one on my '66 Mustang convertible for years....I just can't deal with the look on a C1 - just my personal opinion.

Cooked outside at a local car show here in Central Florida yesterday -- getting to that point each summer where the car spends two months in the garage because of the heat and I get all the knit-picking fixes done.

I could not find the picture I was looking for but a Corvette Shop in Victorville CA, owned by SoCal SACC member Walden Dahl, reproduces these luggage racks and he has one on his 1961. His # is 760 949 6653 - I am sure he would be happy to send pictures of his product.

Not a great shot, but Route 66 Corvettes had racks on them.

I remember an all black 61 that always wore its hardtop and had a luggage rack. Shades of Buzz and Todd! That was a long time ago and it didn't look bad at all.

I'll try to dig up that photo.

Please do..

I'm curious about that combination on a black car with a hardtop.

Frank..

Did you decide against installing the Vintage Air A/C you we're considering a while back?

Stan..
I haven't decided against A/C...and if I DO put air in it will definitely be the Vintage Air Gen IV.

I just haven't quite got my mind around such a major modification to my 98% original car.... If I do the A/C I'll prob have to go with an alternator (can the generator) then its an SR-III chassis then an LS-6 and well you see where I'm going...

Aftermarket racks for C2s were usually hinged at the front so you could lift them to refuel without unloading the luggage. And some offered optional ski rack adapters.

Default My black 61 Vette

Here is a picture of my black 61 with a luggage rack. It's
a stainless steel rack that has been on the car 30+ years.
Very handy when traveling with the wife. Two suit cases and a
large tool box in the trunk. Don't remember where I bought it.

I just find they break up the rounded curves of the C1 cars too much....I didn't mind the rack so much on my 'boxy' Mustang.

all of THAT can be done, and undone; if necessary... heck, you're already sliding done that slippery slope...

I got this ugly rack in LA when I bought my car for the trip back, and it serves the purpose well. We camped some times, and had tools, luggage, tent etc with us. It attaches with rubber covered clips to the trunk lid, and leaves no marks. It's still hanging in the garage if I want to use it........(although now the Holiday Inn is more appealing.)

Default 1961 with luggage rack

I had a 61 "back in the day" and put a luggage rack on it - installed myself. If I recall, I bought the rack from JC Whitney - it was pretty small, but looked good on the car. I do have some pictures of the car, but pre-luggage rack days or I'd post 'em. I drilled (ouch!) four holes in the trunk lid to mount it and, as I said, it looked good. Incidently, I also installed seat belts on the car, bought from Sears and they looked good too - chrome buckles, red straps, etc. No Corvette America, Paragon, Eckler's, etc. in those days. On we go.

You can see them aplenty on C1s in old Route 66 episodes.
