headlight switch in a 67

Default headlight switch in a 67

Headlight switch smokes when trying to open lights. The lights do not open. They do turn on. But will not open.
Any ideas, were should i start??

Sounds like a short circuit in one or both motors. Check the ground screws on each motor, where the heavy gauge black wires connect at the motor brackets. Remove each one and check to be sure they are only about 1/4" long. If very long, they can short the internal motor windings and cause your problem.

If those are ok you may have a short in the harness, or one or both motors may be shorted internally. You can pull the feed harness at each motor individually to see if the short clears, but either way you Headlights switch may be getting overstressed. Use caution.

Think I would disconect the battery, unless I am right there with the car. A little fire can do a lot of ($$$) damage real quick.

I always disconnect the battery when my Vet is not in use.
