Spax Shock Absorbers for 66 SB
Just received a set (front and back) of Spax adjustable shock absorbers. What is a good initial setting for a firm but not bone jarring ride?
Thanks in advance for any input.

I started at 18 front and rear and have gone to 22 front and 24 rear. Comfortable ride (to me) and handles well on the street.
It won't take you too long to figure out what is good for you.

I run 460# springs front and a 330# fiberglass spring in the rear on my 63 small block.

That is interesting. Can u notice any change after the 14th click? The instructions on mine state, "...after the 14th setting the adjustment will disengage and have no futher effect on the damping rate." Maybe that only applies to new ones like mine. Or different models. Mine are #021 front and #022 rear.

Sounds like I've got a different model of Spax shocks. I'll check with the seller on Monday. The instructions that came with my shocks definitely says a max of 14 stages of adjustments vs. yours at 28.

I don't think there is really any difference in the 14 way verses 28. My bet is yours just makes larger changes. Check the instructions. On ours you do 4 clicks at a time and back up 2. You probably go 2 clicks at a time and back up 1?

Do u happen to know the model # of ur shocks? Mine are #021 for the front and #022 for the rear.

Turns out that the difference is that the shocks that I bought are 30 year old "NOS" that the dealer had sitting on his shelf. He was nice enough to take them back for a complete refund as he did not disclose that when I bought them. They did not carry any sort of a factory warranty as the company is under different ownership. I did find another US dealer who has the current model in stock for the 66 Corvette which comes with a two year warranty. They sound just like the ones everyone else has and I should have them in a week.
