The 54 is home...
Grandpa bought the car in 1961, currently the car has 423,056 miles.
My Dad was suppose to get the car but passed before Grandpa.
After my grandfather passed we(my brother and I) were told it was Grandpa's wishes that we got the car.(being the only gearheads in the family)
Our Grandfather was #5 founding member of the NCRS. Had over 30 Corvettes over the years, this was his first.
Now, I was given offers before we even got out of michigan. It's not for sale, yes I know what it's worth no I don't care. It has sat for about 10-15 years so it's a little rough. Over the winter I'm going to go through it and get it running. My Goal is to be able to drive it next year and little by little collect everything to do a proper restoration. Currently has a Chevy 350 but I have the original blue flame six.

I love the red wheels and trailer hitch. If your grand father went camping or took the car on vacation he probably had a small trailer he pulled behind the 54. How cool. I am sure he is watching you, make him proud and take your time and do it right. Good Luck.

I agree with everyone else.... great family story.
To my eye, it appears the same person painted your car as did the two in this picture (blue one is mine):

Just curious...
With your screen name of "Checkmate"......
AND knowing that your grandfather was a founding member of NCRS,
I'd guess that Joe Chess was your grandfather?

I had the pleasure of meeting your grandfather on several occasions, at NCRS functions. I think I also ran into him a time or two at Bloomington Gold.
I also bought a bunch of old literature and magazines from Joe when he was cleaning things out and "thinning" his collection of "stuff".
Small world.
