Ambiguous question from a C3 owner
My wife's friend owns a '60 Coupe. Restored with a NOM. She won it in a raffle ($100 ticket and she only bought one ticket). The restoration was valued at $30,000 but that value may have well been for promotional purposes.
I've seen the car once. I didn't go over it with a fine-tooth comb but it appeared to me to be a well done restoration. It's a beautiful, red car. Whether or not it's NCRS worthy, I have no idea as I'm not hip to NCRS criteria.
The owner is afraid to drive it. It stays parked at her parent's house next to a '66 Mustang. Her parents want to buy the car for $20,000 since they claim to have paid $13,000 (???) in taxes, license, fees, etc. yada, yada.
Based on what little info I've provided, is this a $30,000 (approximately) vehicle?
Thanks.

Re: Ambiguous question from a C3 owner (Neo Fender)
I paid $27K for my '58 last year and it was (still is) far from being restored. The place I bought the '58 from also had a '60 that was in a museum for some time (but it wasn't in [edit] -perfect- condition) going for $40K. They also said that they had a restored '58 comming in that was going for $50K.
Around here, I would say that any C1 in restored condition is worth at least $40K. But then again I live in an area where an "average" house goes for over $600k.

Even with an NOM, a decently-restored '60 is worth $30K any day of the week, maybe $35K if it's really well done. Can't imagine how anyone could pay $13K in taxes on it ???

You say the car is a 60 coupe. They only made convertibles in 60, could it have a removable hard top?
As far as the taxes, if they valued the car at $30,000.00 then that would be added to their income. If they are in a 28% tax bracket they would pay $8,400.00 in Fed. tax, and maybe state tax, then if sales tax is 8%, that is another $2,400.00. And if they had the car shipped, they are not far off with $13.000.00.
