I do not remember the 1953 we had in family or even know the # but do remember going to buy a blue 59 with uncle Tony at age 4 ,1963 and riding in other uncles JR`s 270 HP 60 . many times .as well as the second one yes he owned two of them .a red 61 was also in family. there are photos in my album of the 60 now and then shots , aunt had a 70 . so my vette exposure did the trick , first purchase was 1968 327 /300HP air red , roadster, then yellow 68 327 350 HP ,now my ermine white C1 270 HP two top car, I often think a trade for a split window would be interesting ,not that often but time to time,LOL now my sons I hope will have the same corvette desire, the 60 is still owned locally by a freind since 1979!!! we were invited to see car this summer still has original paint sort of a surviver ,we left with uncle JRS 270 hp air cleaner few dents but nice to have .

Perfect car for a U of M beach bum. I can recall setting at a Red light the corner of Lejune and US-1, there was four 62`s all facing the four different directions which I doubt could never be reproduced even on purpose.....And if you liked a fast car,.... nothing was faster and you could order one the way you wanted which was naturally a Fuel Injected triple black with a 4.56 positraction gear.........
My first experience was in my big brother's '61 in 1971. Dad rebuilt the beat up ex-road-racer. The car was originally a Fuelie that by now had a big Holley and a crushed front end. My Uncle painted it in the driveway (he was REAL good). The motor was supposedly a 301 c.i.. All I know is that it was fast and I wanted one!

Mostly into 69 Camaros and 64 El Caminos. After active duty in the Navy, settled in Northern CA rather than back to PA. Always liked C2 & early C3 Corvettes but could not pass up a basket case 59 for $100.00 in 1986 (couple making son sell as he was going off to college). But I have been paying ever since !!!

I have always been a CAR guy. I sold my last one and felt I was done.
When a friend offered me a 60 project, I was back in. Only because of what it was. To me, the design of the 56 to 60, with the coves, teeth, interior, etc, is the definition of a Classic car. The 64 SWC and any c2 is right there as well.
The proof is the kids today that didn't grow up with them and yet recognize the same thing we did the first time they see one.

Two Vette experiences sealed the deal - 1st time I was in about '68 (I was 9), and went cruising with Dad in his '61 down I-10. He was going about 80 mentioned here comes a "new" one - passed us at about 100. Thought I needed one of these. The '61 made enough impression that I have a '62.
Second experience found me and my friends at a Sonic drive in. While sitting there, a '72 pulled out on the drag and proceeded to "catch rubber" in all 4 gears! My first thought was I GOTTA get me one of those! That experience let me to my first Vette - a '70 BB. Some days I think it would be nice to still have it, but Green/Green combo with 9MPG and an furnance sitting in front of you snaps me out of that thought.

I was 19 when I bought my Honduras Maroon, 340 hp, '62 in the summer of '68. The PO bought it new when he earned his Wings as an AF pilot (my hometown had a B52 base at the time). I got up several times that night just to go out and look at it. My Grandpa Hansen was the car guy of the family and he absolutley loved it, my Old Man hated it coz it wasn't a family car. Perfect little rebellion. Perfect university ride. My 40th university reunion is in a couple of weeks. I was thinking of taking the '70, but see the Big names and my Group W crowd aren't showing up so I ain't goin'.
The '62 was a road/touring machine with a 3.08 rear and Dunlop radials. Montana did not have a daytime speed limit at the time and all the Lincolns and Caddies would cruise at 100. I'd pull along side in third, punch the 4 barrell hit fourth and dust them, an old habit that stays with me today. Straighten the horizontal vertical curves and pass with authority!!

My first car was a brand new '69 GTO, and as such I raced different cars nearly every single day for several years, including vettes. They never beat me, but I loved the look.
I then bought a new '78 Anniversary Vette, because I loved the look, but was SO disappointed with the lack of power that I sold it within a year and started looking around for a mid year (I don't fit well at 6'4" with long legs in a C1).
After about 6-8 months and much tire kicking I found my '64 being sold by a guy who needed money for a house he was building for his family.
Been real happy with her ever since....

In the early '70s in my small hometown my buddies and I hanged out on a gas station close to the highway looking for cool and fast cars , mostly Porsches and Jags heading for the racetrack nearby.
One day we heard two V8:s on a distance revving to the redline in each gear and the sound came closer and closer and finally we saw the two cars braked really hard to take the exit into the gas station and the first car in was a black '67 BB coupe with sidepipes and the second one was a red DeTomaso Pantera.
Both cars stopped at the pumps and we ran to the cars , my buddies to the Pantera and I ran to the Corvette and said to myself..Damn , what a car!!
I asked the driver in the Corvette if he won the race against the Pantera , And he told me "Well it was a close call there but I won" and then he asked me if I liked his car " Yeah.. the coolest car I've ever seen" and then he said "jump in" and he pulled the handbrake and started the engine and I remember the car was shaking and rumbling and the sound from the sidepipes was just awesome when I sat in the drivers seat barely looking over the steering wheel.
I was 9 or 10 years old at that time but I have never forgot that moment , And now I have my own '66 BB with sidepipes and I have let some boys with that "special look" in their eyes sit in the drivers seat in my car with the engine running because I know what it did to me.

Nice picture. The beautiful people look like one of the Four Seasons going to prom with a young Farrah Fawcett!

As a kid born in 62, the C2's were the first ones I remember.
In the late 70's I saw my first Grand Sport.
That was it, after seeing it and hearing it, I knew in Soul that someday a C2 would be in my Garage.
33 Years later I'm about 6 months from having a 64 Grand Sport in the Garage. Once you get hooked, that's one barb you can never get unhooked from. (So I hear)
I also haven't seen anyone ever try.
