Default What made you want a C1 or C2

I suppose most who own a C1 or C2 chose them because something about that car really grabbed them. I as a youngster had my 1st ride in a Corvette and what grabbed me was that little white ball for a door ****. That said to my little mind this car is so fast a regular door handle is to dangerous. Then there was that steering wheel with the holes in it with the chrome button with crossed flags saying Chevrolet Corvette. And then that grab bar and the little door between the seats for driving gloves. Thats what makes me crazy about the C1 . I own a C4 because thats what fits my budget but those little things in the C1 still drives me crazy. Whats your story.

Funny story. Back about 1970 (I was 19), my friend's brother had a 1965 roadster. He a bit too much to drink one night and hit something and tore up his oil pan. He told my friend and I if we could take the oil pan off, take it to a weld shop and reinstall we could have the car for a day.

Oh boy, it was like giving Flounder's brother's car (ref: Animal House) to the frat house. We had so much fun that day racing around the county I knew then I wanted one. It took 32 years.

PS The oil pan still leaked after the repair.

Back in the 60's I used to watch the TV series Bonanza and Chevrolet ran most of the commercials...it was 63 (or there abouts) and I remember the Corvette ads and the "hideaway headlights'.....it was love at first sight.

When I was in elementary school a lady my Mom knew had a '61 black over red(still has it too). She would go by me everyday as I walked home from school and throttle it. Sent goose bumps up my arms every time. Wanted a C1 when I got my '64, but couldn't afford it.

Maybe some day I'll be able to buy that '61. I'd love it. I don't think she drives it anymore

My dad worked at a Chevrolet dealership, and my brother had a 270hp 3 speed, Black/Red '57 in '59 so my future in a vette was a slam dunk. I was 7yrs old in '59 when he had the vette and would scare the crap out of me when he would take me for a ride. Pedal to the metal all the time. He always used to brag it got 6 miles to the gallon! Good times.

When I was a kid I saw the movie "Hot Rods to Hell". I decided I had to have one (two including the girl). Eventually became an epidemic and I also got a '65. Isn't that every mans dream? A hot rod with a hot chick hanging on the back.

I had always liked Corvette's. The first time I was in one, I was the driver. It was a 66 roadster. That got me hooked. I've had several C-1's & C-2's, as well as C-3's and C-5's, since that fateful day. It's certainly an expensive habit.

In 1962, when I owned a 1958 Porsche 1600 Super coupe, I attended my first SCCA race at Stuttgart, Arkansas, and witnessed Dick Thompson demolish all other A and B-production cars. I was not impressed, even tho 2nd place was a Ferrari 250GT SWB. However, a few months later, I saw the Road & Track cover with the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray coupe and roadster, and I was hooked forever.
I bought a 1967 427 coupe for the street, and then traded it for a 1969 L-88 coupe which I raced in the IMSA Camel GT series until 1977. In 1975, I was previleged to buy a friend's 1963 Z06 coupe, which I have street driven and Vintage raced ever since. Therefore, my answer is that I purchased a C2 (and C3) Corvette to RACE....(as God and Zora Duntov intended).

1n '73-'74 when i was 16, I wanted a '65-'67 car in the worst way but they were in the $2500 and up range for a decent one, and all i could barely afford was $500 for my '61 car that needed some work.

Perfect car for a U of M beach bum. I can recall setting at a Red light the corner of Lejune and US-1, there was four 62`s all facing the four different directions which I doubt could never be reproduced even on purpose.....And if you liked a fast car,.... nothing was faster and you could order one the way you wanted which was naturally a Fuel Injected triple black with a 4.56 positraction gear.........

My interest in cars began before I even started school. (late 50's) Corvette was America's sports car, the hottest thing around, the car I had to have.

Back in 1966 I was a hard core Mopar man. My wife liked a Sting Ray convertible, so I traded my 1965 440 Dodge for it. Repairs broke me in 5 months so I traded it for a 1966 Dodge Charger. 25 years later I bought the 1966 I have now, as a project car. The repairs haven't caused me to go broke this time, so I still have it - 24 years later.

I graduated from high school and got my license in '66.

At the time the '66 427 Corvette was the coolest car (to me) on the road, especially if it was a Nassau Blue convertible!

Still not too shabby a car today.

A neighbor behind me growing up had a red/white coves 60 and I remember getting close to it and thinking how cool it was. The C2's to me always held a special place because of the fastback coupe despite me seeing the 60. I honestly don't think there is much out there better looking outside of a few vintage Ferrari's, Jag's, or maybe a Mustang or two.
Judging by the stares, thumbs up, or honks....I think a few people think the same. I can only imagine what it must have been like as a kid seeing a "new" 63 driving down the road.

Buzz & Todd on Route 66 (one episode with a young Stephanie Powers riding between them clinched it).

After running a big John Deere tractor all day and part of the night on the farm at age 13, I would lay on the floor and watch Buzz & Todd drive their C-1s (later C-2).

I could only dream of how to get from the John Deere to Corvette. I got my first one, a 61, in 1968 and still drive it weekly.
