Default Speedometer/Tachometer Lubrication, etc.

I"m in the midst of restoring the instrument cluster on my '66. I'm installing new tach and speedometer faces and wondering if I should do any cleaning or lubrication of the speedometer and tachometer drives. I also need recommendations on cleaning the main and trip odometers. Both tach and speedo were working fine before restoration began and I can see there is some type of grease on the gears. Also, the gasket that goes between the odomoter and the cluster backing plate is falling apart, should it be replaced?

Thanks.

Do not use lubriplate engine assembly! Use speedometer lube from a parts store. When you do lube the cable, do not put any on the upper 3-4 inches from the speed/tach heads. Have you cleaned out the old casings? Dennis

NAPA has a product called Syl-Glide in a blue tube that can be used to do your cables.
