Had the dreaded flickering lights issue and traced the culprit down to the voltage regulator. Removed it, cleaned and reset the points and then took her out for a spin, no more flicker lights. Damn, I like working on my car.

Driving it
Finally got to drive it to work last week, now it's in for the top install. Rolled over the 100 mile mark - I'm still listening for weird noises expecting some sort of problem to show up. I assume that will end around the 500 mile mark...

Burning Brakes
Last week I bought a 30lb. Bottle of Freon so my 64' Coupe with original C60 Air Conditioning would never be without. The AC worked but at best it would blow slightly cool air, enoght to make driving in South Florida tolerable during the day. I have the factory manual and I started reading about the AC System, I love these original old manuals and all the photos and diagrams. Well I asked my friend if I could borrow his AC gages.
I brought them home from work and set the car up to check it's current charge condition with the gage set connected to low pressure side valve on the suction throttling valve and the discharge of the compressor next to the muffler. I connected the middle hose to my freon bottle. I removed the air cleaner started the car and brought the rpm's up to 2,000 and turned on the AC. I had to make a idle speed adjustment as that big A6 Compressor take a lot of horse power to run it. With the temp in my garage of 90 degrees the manual said I should have a discharge pressure of 99 psig and a suction pressure of 9.2 psig. I showed suction of 1 psig and discharge of 94 psig. I began to slowly feed in some freon. Soon my discarge pressure was the desired 99 psig and the suction came up to 7.9 psig, a little low but then I'm not sure how well these gauges are calibrated.
I disconnected every thing after shutting the car off then I restarted it and reset the idle speed back down. I closed the hood, hopped in and started the car and headed out. Once I got underway I turned on the AC and turned the fan up to high. It soon was blowing ice cold! After several miles I was getting too cold, so I turned the fan down to the middle setting...yeah! This was on a 93 degree ambient temp day, I am so happy about my evening after work with my little Coupe.
Now I need to come up with a way to mount a solenoid I bought and hide it out of sight so when I turn on the AC it kicks the idle spped up so it won't stall as the compressor drops the idle speed 500-600 rpm when turned on.

Melting Slicks
Took the 57 for a nice drive after installing a new rear main seal yesterday. The old rope seal leaked like a sieve, so I installed one of the aftermarket rubber lip seals, easy to install and dry as a bone.

Got my 62 out for the first time this year because of all the damn rain, washed and cleaned up, and took a short cruise in it. Still draws a crowd!
