Above is the page for a 66 being offerred on ebay. Notice the comment that this is a DRUM brake car. I emailed the seller, and he claims the car was ordered this way.
Well.... truth or fiction. I though 65 was the last year drums were available.
Comments????

Gotta agree wuth you. My memory and info says that disc brake delete could be ordered in 65 but never heard about it in 66. Documentation would be  as I know then as now it's who ya know, not whatcha know....

joevette57,
You are correct, 1965 was the last year that drum brakes were available on a corvette. RPO Code J61 was a 1 year option (actually it was a credit of $64.50) if you chose drum brakes over the now standard (for 65) disc brakes. Only 316 people opted to do this. I suppose that the 67 Stinger Big Block hood was a early release (read special order)rare option (just 1 produced). I am amazed that this car has bid to over $32,000.00 and still has not met the reserve. IMO that kind of money should buy a pretty nice #'s matching small block car. I will say the car looks nice and the owner has put in a lot of hard work and money to get it there.

Really a sharp car judging from the pictures. Makes me wonder how it got drum brakes though. Frame and suspension from an earlier car? If I was going to the trouble to do a frame off, I'd certainly have corrected that problem. I'd be very skeptical of the "ordered that way" claim without some sort of documentation.

Bet if you check the VIN it will turn out to be a '65 and not a '66....unless....it is pieced together from several different cars.

That's entirely possible. Hard to tell a 65 from a 66. If the car is registered as a 66 and has a 65 vin, then I'd look hard at that too. If it is in fact a 65 with the drum brake credit option, it is rare. One of those cases where rare does not necessarily = valuable/desireable.

...this car is in very nice condition....it looks like it was built from whatever was laying around....for example, the mc is an early type with the bale retainer - goofy

There is no end to what will show up for sale on Ebay. Even the rare, one of a kind, never build, can be found for sale.

Indeed, the visual inspection of the photos shows many problems. It all depends on what you're looking for in a car, I guess.
Since I'm interested in the NCRS aspect of it, I wouldn't go near it!

Re: One For the Experts Ebay Offering (joevette57)
Definitely has issues being called a 66. From the limited pictures it appears the dash and seats are 66 but the seat belts are either late 66 or 67's (push button type). The Rally wheels definitely are 67 or later (depending on width). Of particular interest to me is the fact that the brake line appears to run on top of the frame rail in the picture, which makes the frame a 65 or earlier (66 changed the location for the brake line to down lower on the inner frame rail). My bet is that it is likely a 63 or 64 frame and chassis components with a 66 body on top of it. Caveat Emptor! :smash:
