Default Is this a scam or what?

I received this email--see text and pictures below--in response to soliciting for a hardtop for a 1959 Corvette. The guy Herbert Giles is from Great Britain--doesn't say where--and wants 520GBP for the top (about $1000.00) For some reason his "Paypal" account isn't working??

I couldn't determine whether the pictures were even from Great Britain---not a lot of info to go on. No plates on the car or even from the other vehicles in the picture. Can't identify the advertising on the front plate area...

Do you think I should send him cash up front--along with my social security number, drivers license number, mother's maiden name, checking account number, etc...

Remember... they walk amongst us...

Hello John

Thanks for writing. A customer brought his 1959 requesting for the top
to be taken off and it's currently for sale. The top is in excellent
shape and condition as you can see. I'm asking 520GBP and I will be
shipping via UPS or FedEx on a 3 - 4 working days delivery and will
accept payment via Western Union as my paypal is currently dormant.
What's your complete shipping address?

Many thanks again and regards,

Hebert

c.o.d. That is a very nice looking '59. Why would anyone want to sell the top with a car that nice. 99% of owners would store it in the garage and attach when the car is sold.

The scammers are not dumb. They'll get plenty of bites and keep ripping people off.

As always the buyers being dumb is the only thing that keeps the crooks in business.

Hello John

Thanks for writing. My uncle brought his '57 fuel injection for me to sell. It is black with silver coves and red interior. It is a NCRS top flight car with all documentation included. He is in the middle of a divorce and wants to liquidate this '57 ASAP. My digital camera is with my uncle at present so I have no access to pictures but if you send me 65K via Western Union..I will have the car shipped immediately.

Do you really think Americans are that stupid??

NO!. It's cheaper to Just send cash, that way he won't have all the other info he needs to keep sucking money from you.

Default Hebert Giles also replied to my WTB

Similar story, in reply to my WTB 2 Tire Pressure Sensors for a late C4. On 3/6 I received the following email from Hebert (note not Herbert) Giles:

"I have auto parts for sale. Do get back to me if you're in need of
anything. What's your phone number?

Regards,

Mr.Hebert Giles
70 Whalley Road, Blackburn, BB1 9BD. Lancashire, England"

I did not sent him my phone number. But replied to his email asking how much he wanted for the BLUE Label – GM P/N 10161855 – (RF) & the YELLOW Label – GM P/N 101161858 – (LR) so yesterday so on 3/6 he replied...

"Hello Gene

Thanks for writing. Yes I still have an original Corvette tire
pressure sensors with same Part Number in excellent shape and
condition. I'm asking $300 and I will be shipping via UPS or FedEx on
a 3 - 4 working days delivery and will accept payment via Western
Union as my paypal is currently dormant. What's your complete shipping
address?

Many thanks again and regards,

Hebert"

Sounds risky, huh? Given Hebert's writing skill I am skeptical, likely was not educated in England.

Go to maps.google.com and enter the address. There is no 70. It goes from 68 to 92.

And it is on highway "666"

You have to mess with him. Figure out what you need for the Western Union code and tell him you sent the payment. Ask him later in the day if he got it. Then tell him he transposed the numbers and try again. If he ask for your name tell him George Bush. It will drive him nuts for a little while.
