Muncie Shifter linkage
Im in the middle of rebuilding the muncie for the 66. I decided to rebuild the shifter and test fit it on to the tranny while Im waiting for my gears to come in. The car hansnt had a 4 speed in it since 99. So I had to pick up a new tranny since I got rid of the other one(not original) Anyway the tranny I have now is a 661 case and 584 tailhousing (10/27 teeth). I noticed the shifter linkages were way off. I'm using the triangle mount bracket on the tailshaft but was wondering If I needed to get the other mounting bracket that mounts to the frame or do I need to get a different linkage setup from a c3? Do the linkages change from early muncies to late?

For C2’s, the Muncie shifter and linkage rods were the same from ’64-’67. The 584 tail housing would be correct for a ’66. The shifter mount bracket changed to the cross member mounted bracket during ’66 production. The information I have, shows cars produced after 3/21/66 had the cross member mounted bracket. So the date your car was built would determine which mounting bracket it would take – the difference being if the cross member is drilled or not.
I don’t know what you mean by “the shifter linkages were way off?” If you have a ’64-’67 shifter and rods, they should work.

Well after looking at it some more I noticed the reverse lockout rod does not penetrate through the bottom of the shifter. A little more investigating I see that the shifters part number shows its for a c3? What is going on here? My 66 is an early production car (65) so the bracket is correct. Maybe Im missing something with the linkage.

The pic below is a '67, but with the exception of the mounting bracket, your shifter, rods and levers should look something like this.

Thanks Mike, That picture helped out a lot, stupid me had the brackets backwords. Now if I can only fix the reverse lockout rod. The guy before me had a c3 shifter in it so I need to figure this one out.
