Think of switching to Mono leaf
Okay people...
I don't want a harsher ride but one that will handle better.
I have heard different stories as to ride height problems with the Mono's, RIDING TOO HIGH.
Is the installation the same as the OEM spring?
Do I need different shocks?....will stock shocks work?
Longer bolts?...if so how long?
Shim thickness where spring mounts to rearend?...how thick?
I have done the OEM's so installation is not a problem.
So i was thinking of this from Vansteel

"Also thinking of a rear sway bar...but later"
TIA

last year i installed a vbp unit, 385 lbs. spring rate and already had the Qa1's .....i wish i put it in ten years ago, major difference on ride quality and i thought it was good before with the steel spring, even better now........
you can always adjust the ride height with different link bolts, i would start with longer ones to begin with....

i would do the sway bar at the same time you have the spring removed just my 2c's

Yes but in at least the case of my 65 the spring is thinner and thus the 4 main mounting bolts are shorter.
Yes
They will function but will not properly suppress the bouncy nature of the rear composite spring.
My personal recommendation - don't bother, I hate the one on my 65.

What about the ride height issues...some people, "i've read" have issues of the car setting higher and fight this.

I'm currently posting from a location with a restricted network, thus no access to my photobucket account until I return home shortly.
What process did you go thru to get the correct height...bolts lengths, shims, shocks, etc...
thanks
It was configured when I bought the car, but looks like longer end-link bolts were the key.

If you have a picture of the leaf ends and the mount on the rearend that would be great.

For now, this is the best picture I have of the ends, but I will see if I have any others that I haven't put on PhotoBucket.
Edit: Found a better picture.

Which spring weight are you running?
and
how thick is the shim on the rear end?

I hate it, which is why my original post recommended you not make the change.
The car is bouncy-bouncy in the rear end, even after springing (pun intended) for the pricy "customized" shocks sold by VBP specifically designed for use with the mono-leaf spring.
I don't know what length the bolt is, but I believe it was part of the rear spring kit when my friends (the previous owners) had the spring installed in the 1990s.

Other than that does it handle or does the rear slide out on you on the corners, more so than with an OEM spring?

Yes very much so, feels like the car has no shocks at all - which I know not to be true because the bounce is actually better (but still awful) with the VBP shocks versus the Konis. The bounce is bad enough you need the seat belt to keep your butt touching the seat on some portions of my local community.
I never drove the car with the OEM spring, and I don't drive it hard enough now to jeopardize traction.
But, don't take inputs only from me, let this thread play out for a few days and see if others have similar or contradictory experiences from my own.

I started with a 330# VBP spring with Bilstein sport shocks. It road too hard for me. I sent it back and got a 300# spring and that suited me better but the shocks were still too hard. I changed to Koni, they are adjustable, and I liked the ride. I got a good deal on some Spax shocks and changed to them because they are externally adjustable. I ran that set up for about 4 years. I liked it. I changed over to a dual mount spring last summer for increased adjustability. I am selling the 300# spring. It has a nice street ride and handled well but not stiff enough for serious sport driving. PM me if interested.
