Default Affordable C1s

I have always been in love with the 61 and 62 Corvette but drive a C4 since that is all that fits in my budget. Through the years of looking at C1s most decent running ones seemed to be priced around $50,000 and up. Now I see some cars being advertized that look real good in the forty thousand plus range. Two were seen at Contes Corvettes in N.J. When I retire in two years I may have some extra cash coming my way. If I am seeing things correctly do you think it will be possible to get a ruff 61 or 62 (when I say ruff I mean a car with decent paint but a car with seen wear and flaws) in the mid to upper thirties. I dont care about orginal engines or equiment or am I still dreaming?

Patience for sure! They are out there if you hunt for them. If I was doing it today, I'd look for a mechanically sound, cosmetically average car that I could enjoy right away, and take care of the cosmetic things as time and money allow.

Think blood hound!

Basically what I did...my '61 had the motor rebuilt when I bought it but everything else was 'tired'. So I did a rolling restoration on it over 5 years and now its a show winner anywhere I go and I've been driving the car non-stop since I've had it... Get a mechanically sound car, deal with the safety items first and then jazz everything else up as time and money permit...you'll be happier.

Go to some large swap meets and you will be amazed at the cars for sale out there. Keep in mind those are asking prices, selling prices can be much lower. There's still many dillusional owners out there that base their prices on BJ results, and occasionally they find buyers with more money than sense. But, many other people need to move their cars and if you find them at the right alignment of the stars, money talks. Happy hunting!

They're out there in that price range. That's where I started with my 62.A dependable driver,Ex drag car with so much not correct that I went the restomod route.
I would suggest finding where all the car show and cruise are in your area and look there.Someone is selling all the time.

This is good advice!

I think you are realistic. One of our gang had a silver 62 that was nice clean and mechanically sound with both tops. He had it about 7-10 years and drove it routinely. I thought about buying but my wife would have me committed ( multiple Corvettes make her wonder, multiple C1's would make her shoot me).

He sold it for $34,000, he had people trying to buy for 30K, he was patient and the right buyer came along, BOTH are very pleased.

Joe
