Bummer!! They were less than half the price of any other aftermarket supplier on the Fargo unit that JohnZ recommended when I purchased and installed mine!

Default Fargo Automotive

Searching internet for the Fargo Automotive unit:

No luck using part number 63C-9300-CV except " this one from Street Performance" for $70.

Questions:

A. Is this the same Fargo unit that Ron Miller used?

B. Anyone have a spare Fargo for sale?

C. Or a hint as to where to locate?

Larry,

The label you show in your previous post is identical to the label on the Fargo box that my sending unit came in.

When I replaced mine it measured 0-90 perfectly but it shows a quarter of a tank when I actually have a half tank of gas. I thought about pulling it and bending the rod the float is on downward to raise the level. Has anyone tried that?

Default Sending unit gasket replacement 1964 Corvette

My tank was dry with no gas in it for about a year, I guess the gasket dried out for when I added gas the float/sending unit gasket leaked (it had not leaked previously). I have researched removing the spare tire compartment but that is as far as I got. I looked at the unit from the outside and it looks like I will need a special tool or an improvised tool to remove the unit. What else do I need to know before tackling this job? Mike C.

Default C2 Fuel Sender installation

Thanks all for the clues on replacing the fuel sending unit.
1. What grease did you use on the o-ring? White grease?
2. I'm having trouble getting the lock ring engaged. Suggestions? The o-ring is a "smidge" too large so doesn't fit exactly in the tank recess. Does that matter?
3. Having trouble getting the lock ring engaged. O-ring doesn't compress to let me get started. Ideas? Bend lock ring tabs?
4. BTW Dick Barron at Virginia Vettes, Williamsburg, VA (757-897-6078) has excellent info on all C2 topics. Others as well, but I've got a 66.

This was probably a good thread 7 or 8 years ago. Just too bad it wasn't saved for future viewers.

I had a leak this fall just when I was about to store the car for the winter. I ended up locating OEM lock ring and o-ring. I soaked the o-ring over night, greased the lock ring with bearing grease and installed with lock ring tool and its been sitting two months with a full tank and not a drop. The key seems to be use OEM, the made in china o-ring is the wrong size in all ways and their lock ring is tin junk.

Good luck.

IMHO! I would use a little Dielectric Grease........

If all else fails, you could follow the instructions in UPC 8 in the A.I.M. and soak the O-ring in motor oil prior to installation like we did in the plant.

Default Fuel Sender installation

Thanks guys for the quick replies and valuable info. I got everything all put together and have added fuel. Gas gauge works. Will let it sit overnight to, hopefully, find no leaks. It's now been about 2 hours and so far so good.
I wanted to let you know what seemed to work. I bent the tabs on the lock ring every so slightly to allow them to slide under the three tabs on the fuel tank. Initially, that wasn't enough so I fiddled with the tabs on the tank and finally got all three tabs in place to engage. Here I used a crescent wrench necked down to just fit over the tab and carefully bent it. This took some trial and effort to bend just enough to let the tabs all fit together. I used a small old blunt chisel to tap on each one of the raised tabs and got the lock ring in place. I was very nervous about bending the tank tabs because I knew that if disaster occured I would be looking at a new tank.
The hardest part was working under the tank. You really need three hands to do this - one to hold the lock ring and two to use the chisel and plastic mallet. Once I got it to hold in place, I was able to "spin" the lock ring into place by tapping each tab and then moving to the next.
Thanks again, Corvette Guys.

I put little red bearing grease like you use on your u-joints on the lock ring and the tank. I put the o-ring in a spray paint can cap and pored in a little motor oil and let it sit over night in the cap. Worked perfect.
