Using SMD LED Bulbs in Cluster
Rewired the car this winter and wanted to make the gauges readable at night. Figured I would post some pictures of how it came out each bulb has 15 SMD's on it, used them in place of all the illumination bulbs in the cluster and in the clock, in the key illumination and the radio I used LumaPro green LED bulbs.
figured I wouldn't be able to dim them after all the posts I've read on here but they do dim with the OEM dimmer

I like them. How extensive was the rewire? Can they be used with a unmodified factory harness? Dennis

stock harness no modifying required I was just replacing the dash harness because it had been hacked up too much over the years still uses the factory size fuse (pretty sure its 3 amp).. it draws less then regular bulbs which only last last 5-10,000 hours (and thats a stretch) these go 100k hrs at least so I wont have to change them in my lifetime.

I got a similar results using 1817 bulbs (not as bright as the LED) with a hotter greener (Krylon green apple) paint when I restored my cluster.

The more I look at this new technology, and consider the safety aspect relative to night driving, the more affordable they become. Dennis

That looks great wow what a difference
,sorry in advance for the dumb question ,but can all the bulbs be replaced with the cluster still in the dash, or does the cluster have to come out?

Have you replaced ALL of yours without removing the cluster?
Gotta drop the steering column and pull the cluster.

I can confirm with personal and extensive unwanted experience, the cluster does not have to come OUT, but I did need lower the column, disconnect the oil line and speedo/tach cables, and push the cluster forward a few inches away from the firewall in order to gain access to the bulbs.
