Default 1960 corvette anmeter gauge conversion to volts

Hello,

I would like to use my stock gauges in the dash, the car is far from stock and have everything figured out except the factory anmeter gauge.

Can these be converted to read volts and not amps and if so does anybody have the information on how to do this or contact information on who can do this.

Thanks,

jp

I'm with you, I would like to do the same thing and keep the stock look. I hope someone knows the correct way.

couple of options:
1. remove the amp guage and find a little voltmeter you can modify to fit the cluster.
2. Scrap the guts of your amp guage and replace with a voltmeter, then figure out how to silkscreen the guage marking.
3 I seem to recall a vendor with a modified guage but dont recall who, maybe corvette central, or mary jo.

I changed out the guts of my ammeter for a voltmeter. The most difficult part was the gauge face. I tried silkscreening with not much success. I ended up doing a color scan of the ammeter gauge face, then used a photo editing program to add the voltmeter numbers, printed it out on some heavy gauge paper and glued the new face on top of the voltmeter gauge face. I thought it might fade, but it has held up well for 10 years.

Thanks all for the input.

I found a place that does the conversion and reuses the original amp gauge face except it reads in volts, the place also converts the mechanical tach to electric with the original face.

Who does it and how much does it cost?

Below is a link to Corvette Instruments. They do this. I had them restore my 59 gauges and he did this exact conversion for my 63. Roger Scott runs the shop and does great work. The gauge face looks great.

I don't know what the cost for this one gauge was because he did a few other gauges with this one. They converted my tach to electronic and my fuel gauge to 0-90 ohm.
