stock engine from factory?
i have a 66 corvette coupe that someone put a 400 sbc in with stock 4 speed with ac .
i was wondering how to find out what engine it came with stock?
is there a tag plate somewhere ?
is there difference between small block vs big block?
any help would be greatly helpful.

Welcome to the forum.
Anything can and has been fudged on these cars. A couple of things. Look at the tach. A high horsepower small block and big block will have a 6500 red line. All the smaller horsepower cars are lower red lines.
Look at the hood support. On most big blocks it will be on the left hand side. All small blocks will have them on the right side. It is proclaimed that some "early" big blocks had them on the right side also. It would depend on your serial number. My car is in the 7000 range and it has the hood support on the left side.
Look at the rear differential. The half shafts on the big blocks use bolts to hold the caps on. The small block differential uses a "U" bolt to hold them on.
Some others will have other things to look for. These are just a few.

PS Nothing in the trim tag or the vin tag will give you any information on what the original engine was in the car from factory.
