62 Vette is now out of the barn
We finally got my father n laws 62 vette out of his barn. He bought the 62 in 69 when my wife Kara was a mear 5 years old, she instantly fell in love with the car and always wanted the car when she grew up. Kara learned how to drive with the 62, took her drivers test with the car, would always take the 62 cruzing when she told not to by her dad. We have been trying to get the car from her dad for over ten years now, it's been sitting in his barn sense 95 (uncovered), well a couple weeks ago he said come and get the 62 out of the barn. We had to take the wheels off my 71 due to the 62 was on blocks. Well we got it home, sitting in our garage now, after a day of cleaning and polishing the car is in real good shape, sure it will need a paint job, and the bumpers need re-chromed, all other chrome cleaned up perfect. The interior is like new(need to replace one section of carpet) he had pulled the fuel tank out and had it cleaned. I replaced all the fluids, pulled the spark plugs and shot mystery oil in each cylinder and let it sit for a couple hours while I replaced the fuel pump, points, condenser, roter cap and the plug wires, cranked it over with the plugs out to make sure it was free, replaced the plugs and she started right up, runs a little rough, but she runs Our plan is to make her a good driver, Kara is so excited, she's wanted this car for 40 years, she's finally in our garage with our other 2 vette's.

...and it just so happens to be a fuel car too!
How lucky can you get. Watch those 8in. rally wheels don't rub on the suspension or inner fenders on turns, my 7inch ones JUST clear. She looks amazingly good after that long nap. I suspect the FI will need going through to bring it up to spec and to spot leaks, everything in time. Congrats to your wife for keeping her dream alive, and having it come true. Seems like she's got a good mechanic in the family as well.

Wish someone would ask ME to come take a '62 out of their garage!
It's sat for a lot of years. Make it safe, then start making up for lost time by driving it all you can!

Check the brakes out thoroughly before that first long ride. DOT 3 is prone to condensation which can cause rust in wheel cylinder bores and elsewhere. The first time you drive after the car has sat for years will seem fine but when you start running those rubber parts over the rust you spring leaks and well.....that's not good as you know.

Congratulations to the two of you. Amazing...it"s FI. As Frank said, check the brakes. NO brakes....NO stopping! Dennis

At the time when he parked it, he had several other Corvettes, a 72, 74 & a 75, 2 street rods a 33 chevy and a 54 chev pickup, he cant remember why he parked it, he said it was running, no problems with the car, he just had too many other projects going, planned on making a restro vette when he retired.

Great story. All I could say was holy cow when I saw the fuelie. That was a good surprise since you didn't mention it. That's amazing that you didn't have to do anything to the fuelie unit. Congratulations. I can see the vanity plate now.....HER 62.
