Yeah yeah... but this baby did 870 Km/h
And if you like "all wood", how about the Heinkle He-162
It was made from "non-strategic" materials (I think it had some sheet metal, but mostly plywood and such, except for the jet) and set a record that still stands today... Drawing board to flying in 90 days.
Course, it ONLY did 750 Km/hr

Correct
KA114, a Mosquito FB.26, was an early production example built at de Havilland Canada's Downsview factory in Toronto. KA114 was flown straight into reserve storage with the Eastern Air Command and taken on RCAF charge on the 22nd February 1945.

Those Repro Me 262s are AWESOME!
Yes, they did get shot down... 99% of the time, it was while the ME taking off, or landing.... but still, a kill is a kill, and one less bird in the sky!

I have to agree that the 2 Jumo 004 engines on the 262 was quite faster than the Rolls Royce Merlins
About shooting down the ME 262 they only managed that whe the ME 262 was landing and could not abort landing because they where out of gas
I bet the allied pilots/airmen wondered the first time they saw a ME 262
What really is incredible is that the Luftwaffe had so many different jet planes during the war

I did not know this about Stewart but i knew that Clark Gable flew some missions in a bomber
If a movie star was shot down i guess he would have been paraded around

When I lived in England during the early 80's I got to sit in one, and if I remember correctly I had to pull myself up through the bottom hatch the opposite direction of the cockpit, and almost crawl into the cockpit area, it was VERY SMALL. The cockpit was fixed did not open, so pilots did not even bother to carry chutes, if they were shot down that was it....at least that is what I was told....Great aircraft, as squadorn flew out of Bardford St. John, the same RAF Based used to film 12:00 High. One crashed at the far end of the runway into a cottage and when I was there in 1980 some of the wreckage was still there....

A few were taken out in the air under power!

But usually by a T-bolt or something in a high speed dive. I will have to look it up (if a TA-152 didn't get you). I also heard that a Mustang got one with a high angle shot thru the engine.
About the Mosquito, it could outrun alot of fighters at low attitude. The interesting ones were the night fighters.

When I think of WWII Pilots THIS guy comes to mind! My dad. 2nd Lt Andy J Benedict. B-24 Liberator Co-Pilot, 3 crash landings, Born in Detroit of imigrant parents, raised in Alliquippa PA, stationed in Italy to bomb oil refineries in Germany and protect our troops, bestowed by the French as "Chevalier in the Legion of Honor". Check out the link. Scroll to the bottom to see pics of him flying "Witchcraft" over SW Pennsylvania last year (at 88yrs old!). He still rides his original 1973 750-4 Honda and occasionally one of our Harleys. He turns 90 on New Year's Day. A man's man. Proud, but unassuming father of 5 boys. Yes, we are proud of him.

Check out the Mustang with busted landing gear....story was the kid pilot slammed it down on take off ... not enough manifold pressure. Jumped right in another P-51 and hit the skies...

I wonder how the air war would have been if the Luftwaffe had got their will and used the ME262 as a fighter plane and not as a fast speed bomber
I suppose the ME262 could have prolonged the war?
Remember that the ME262 was flying well in 1942 and still could have been produced in much more numbers
