Default Knock off cone won't stay on

I'm beside myself with this one. Of the four cones, only one won't stay put. No sooner than I think I secured it with silicone, the same as the other three, it loosens and rattles.

Need some help here, please!

I doubt it's the problem in your case, but make sure the wheel is oriented correctly on the hub. If you have the small holes over the lugs, the spinner won't tighten as far down on the threads and there is extra space between the hub and the inner edge of the spinner that should butt up against the cone. Are you putting the silicone around the side of the cone that touches the wheel, or at the other end near the spinner, or both? I haven't had the issue, but I'm just trying to think what the difference would be in the one wheel.

Instead of silicone I used 3M dum dum putty behind mine. Can't see how they could loosen up with either however as long as the silicone is cured out.

Thanks. I put the silicone on both ends, and also pressed it in (near the spinner) as you would pack bearing grease into bearings. The only thing that is different with this cone is that I got it from LI Corvette Supply to replace one that was damaged by a yo-yo tire guy. The other three have been on ever since I could remember- I believe they came from Paragon- not sure, though. But still, this cone WAS ok at one point. ???

Thanks. For $hits-n-giggles I tried outdated silicone. Its texture is so like dum-dum that I had to finger it out of the tube. I applied some on both ends. Too soon to tell for sure, but it seems like it might work. I'll check it after a couple of hours.

I'll let you gents know how it comes out if you don't mind.

I used shortieces of heater hose. Cut them in half lengthwise and dum-dummed them to the fins. Spinner pressed up against the cone and kept it snug.

Carl,

Try this... use florist putty, very easy to work with, and will hold up to any type of weather.

I was told to lay a couple of beads of silicone on the inside of the cone and let it dry for a day or so. That way they would not stick to the wheel and when compressed they would not rattle. Worked for me and has been for a number of years now. Don't know if it is correct but it does work.
