Is the modern FR70 15 radial tire the exact same size as the old Firestone bias ply tire?
I have installed new, wider, wide whites on the Vette, but I want an original (width is the main concern--otherwise the plywood cover will not be positioned properly) size tire for the spare so it will fit properly into the tub. Do not care about the white wall, it can be a black wall tire.
Thanks,
G

wow.... i haven't seen a letter series tire in over 30 years. a 205x75x15 will the closest you can come in a modern tire. but, to get the cover to fit i would guess you would need a 195; however the best thing to get is an S10 mini spare.

IF you believe the links, a 6.70 is about 7.5" sidewall to sidewall. a 205 (divide by 25.4) is about 8", a 195 would be about 7.7.
i realize you are asking about fitting in the tire tub, but the BIG concern is if you have positraction, then you want the rear tires to match (or you take one off the front and swap to the rear, if you have to... )

the S10 mini-spare is still the best option, even if you have to swap tires around.

I run with an S-10 spare in the tub of a '61. Plywood fits perfectly -- I did put some foam over the S-10 for a little extra support under the plywood so it isn't just hanging in space over the spare. My car is a peg-leg so no worries on that score.
