It was 1973. One 61 that didn't make it. Running a 327 with a 375 unit and a 308 gear.
It Hit a tree and knocked out the left door post. Was being stripped for paint so all front chrome and side trim was off. Took off anything else we though might be usable.
Pulled it out to the farm and left it under a tree with some other old cars I didn't know what to do with.

Le Mans Master
It was a time when individuality was more valued than conformity. So many customized their cars to show their individuality.
So many 'glassed in the headlights to get that Stingray look (1959 Stingray).

I hated to sell that '69 but it paid for about a year of school. I think I got about $3700 for it. Regretted selling my '68 a couple of years later. They've both been replaced with better versions. Back then it was a lot cheaper to play with Camaros than Vettes. Hard to say day these days.

Silver/blue fuelie. Raced the wheels off it, including Indy Nationals. Sold it to a fool in Sept 64 and he cut it in two against a power pole 24 hrs later...

red/blk fuelie, undefeated street racer. Slid down an icy hill one day and lightly scrunched the front end, had my bodyman buddy fill in the pods and we mounted the beamers behind the grill, could get away with that stuff back then. Had a lot of fun with it

Maroon/blk leather, factory 365 HP & KOs. Put an FI unit on it to street race. Could only afford one car back then so drove them in the snow. Never liked KOs so tried to trade them even up for Rallys, no takers, tried to sell them for next to nothing, no takers, threw them in a dumpster. True story. And you don't want to know about the 65 FI unit thrown in a dumpster in 67

1969 L88 in 1969
Bought this white L88 in late 1969 with 300 miles on it for $6000 and drove it back and forth to my race shop for 6 weeks or so, didn't much like L88s (later had a 67) and sold it for $7500 and thought I was a genius. A year later it was so filthy you could grow potatoes inside. Now restored and with a perfect long-term owner in NJ

I'm sure everyone has regrets about what they tossed, sold, didn't toss, didn't buy ...back in the day. Fun to be able to laugh about it today.
Looks like your books are filled with good memories Lance - sent you a PM - would like to meet up here in town, some day.

Baldwin Motion Vette
Customer called me from Baldwin's showroom in 1969, asked if he should buy it. I said don't even think about it, no way, Jose. He bought it anyway, had it flatbedded 12 hrs to my shop. Pearl yellow L88 w/Hone overdrive

53 Studie/Chev in 1960
Bought it from a wrecking yard for $200 on a salvage title, no motor or trans or front fenders. Put a 283 4-spd in it, NOS fenders all way round. My very first car and all I could afford, took every dime I had, did the work one winter in a cramped single car garage with no heat and no door, colder than a witch's ___, never forget it, do strange things when you're young and stupid
