1963 Exhaust Heat Shield (Rear Bezel)
I was looking at my 63 exhaust in in preparation for replacement and I noticed I do not have any rear Exhaust Heat Shields. I bought some and they arrived so now I looked for pictures because they do not seem to make sense.
It looks like the large lip of the heat shield faces to the back of the car and the exhaust tip slides into the heat shield then the heat shield and exhaust tip side over the muffler pipe and the clamp goes around both the heat shield and the exhaust tip.
What is puzzling to me is if this is correct I can not figure out what heat it is shielding is shielding heat from because the heat shield is kind of in the open.
Before I found a picture and bought these I would have thought it was between the fiberglass, bezel and exhaust tip to stop heat from damaging the glass where the pipe foes through the car.
Can someone help explain this, what am I missing? Is everyone with a 63 using these expensive little hear shields (item 4703K)?
