locate car by VIN
Does anyone know how to locate a car by VIN? I paid one of the online sites to see where the car is located and all I get is that its titled in PA. I'm looking for a 1964 vert that I have the engine for.

or you could post the vin here in case he's a member.
or you could Google the vin to see if it's been listed anywhere for sale.

You can post it on the NCRS website as the have a Orphan tab for drive train parts looking for there original cars.

Next time just send me the $$$$$ and I will tell you where your car is. Ha Ha Ha. You mean to tell us that you really paid a company or a person real money to find your car just from the Vin number and they said they could do it or they do it all the time??? RUN FOREST RUN. If that company could really do that they would be very busy just finding out about cars and information on cars for guys on here. That is the best one I have heard. Maybe I should start up a company like that and charge $100.00 with no money back guarantee to find the car or info on the car. Then in about 4 weeks call you and tell you we were unable to find the car or info on the car (but) for another $100.00 we will keep looking. Now that is the way to make big bucks. Ha Ha Ha.

Mike,
I understand your humor, but that's not very nice to say. I'm sure the guy is tring to do the right thing here, and you make fun of his efforts is kinda rude.
JMHO,
Chris

You could try the C2 registry and see if the guy has it registered there.

I suspect that he went throught NMVTIS. The cost is something like $4 or $5. The state of registry is about all you wil get from them, unless you have legal justification (which isn;t easy to get) to request additional information.
Remember, the Driver's Protection Act implemented a lot of privacy rules.
Now that yoy know the state, start pingin the Corvette clubs in the sate. Most have a website.
Good luck on the search.

Mike, there are a couple sites which link to NMVTIS and for a fee of $4.95 will tell you what state it was titled in, when the title was issued, and whether it has any "brands" such as salvage title, not original miles etc.
Due to privacy issues they will not tell you the owner or the city it was titled to but it narrows down the process a little. I have used it to determine my old '67 was last titled in Indiana in 2001, and my ex's '58 was titled in Washington state 2-19-97.
No record of my '59.

I believe the police data base would be able to tell you the who and where of the car, but unfortunately unless you have a cop buddy, you can't access it.

For the most part even a "Cop Buddy" cannot access the Vehicle Database without a valid reason. The age of Computers has tightened this up. Al W.

Historical documant service
Like anyone else I would like to save a dollar or 2. Besides the NCRS club is there anyone else that can provide the original dealer name and address for a fee. I know NCRS can do but they want $35 to join club and $40 for the document service. Looks like I could by pass them someway.
