Before getting a new gauge borrow a Lazer temp reader from a local garage to see if it is actually running hot. With mine the sensor was bad. Went thru a couple of them before it started to read correctly. Sensor cost about 10 bucks and can be changed in a few minutes.

Are you using a new sender or the old sender?

Sounds like it could be a ground issue. Is the cluster grounded and is the gauge tight in the cluster?
