C2 Rear Trailer Tie Down
I am getting ready to trailer my C2 for the first time and I am used to strapping down my solid axle but have no good idea on how to tie down the rear of a C2
Can anyone tell me how you tie down the rear of your C2 for trailering, what straps or hooks you use and any pictures would be helpful?
Thanks!

If it is on a stock frame you can get the tie down pieces that slip into the slots in the frame. Your straps go through the tie down pieces and you are home. I got mine from NH Northern. They were about 15 dollars for the pair. If you can't find them I can ship mine to you.

Are you talking about these? Do these allow you to cross the rear straps or do they have to be straight back?

That's the one and I cross the straps like you are supposed to. I used them three or four times with my car and never experienced any problems. I have not used them with the C5 yet and hope never to have to but they fit the jacking puck slots.

The hooks are a nice addition, in your avatar it looks like you have spoke rims.
You can put the tie straps right through the rims and tie the load down. That is how modern cars are trailered. We had to tie my son's 99 that way on my trailer, I put a towel over the rim and the strap right on the towel then pulled them tight.
Since the wheels are not sprung weight the straps have no play in them at all when used this way. We went through a few hundred miles freeway at speed and 50 miles of twisty mountain road with no problem at all, I was nervous as this was the first time I did not use straps direct to the frame. A car hauler told me to use this method.
It allows the suspension to work while towing.

Here is a reference that can be helpful. Specialty Truck & Trailer Equipment, Dick Johnson, St. Paul, MN, has been a professional car hauler for 20-30 years, sells everything you would need: lifting slings, tie-downs, recovery slings. www.strapman.com 1-800-446-9566. Very helpful and patient with novice car haulers and people who don't do it for a living. Reasonable too. Good luck.

I am towing my 63 SWC for the first time and it has solid wheels.

Right now I do not have my spare tire carrier on either, I thought about running my strap around the spring and cross them against the diff. I have not looked at the area above the cross member.

OK, I got my hooks in and it looks like the proper place to hook them in is right in front of the rear wheel in the re-enforced oval hole.
Here is my question, I normally cross my straps, is it safe to cross the straps thus pulling the hooks at an angle?
