Default 62 Fuelie

I am looking at a 62 original fuel injection Corvette with an incorrect aspirated engine. If I get it, I will want to first get a 327 engine. My question is this; is there any difference (cam, heads, etc) between any period 327 engine and a fuelie 327 of 1962?

Ok thanks for the info. I can't imagine that the chances of finding one of those is high, not to mention the FI unit. Are they available and if so, do you have any idea of the range of cost? Also, is there any source to run the VIN for the car and what can you learn from it other than the normal decoding? I understand that there was no trim tag like I have on my 57 Belair (color, acc, body style, etc). So, for my car, as long as you have a "period correct" engine, trans, etc. it is considered equivalent to "numbers matching". Is the 62 Corvette the same deal?

I'm curious to know what the selling is offering as proof it was a fuelie car.

Good question. That's why I was asking what information you can get from the VIN as there does not seem to be any other tags on the car. The owner says that the car had no engine when he bought it in 1962. He points to the location of the windshield washer bottle with heat shield on the passenger side of the engine and the high redline on the tachometer as indications that it was a fuelie. The car also has the air duct running out to the front on the driver's side. Lastly, while easy to tack on, the car shows the fuel injection badge on the outside. Are there other ways to tell?

There's no help to be found from the VIN. The next best thing is paperwork from the selling dealer.

Almost every part on/in the block/heads of a SHP 327 engine is different than the lower horsepower engines. Even the main caps on the block are different.
