I don't think you really mean 10 AMP speaker. You need a 10 OHM speaker with transformer. Here's a pricey one on ebay:

Don't even THINK about going anywhere but here for an electrically correct midyear radio speaker:

Air/non-air SAME speaker. And this 10 ohm speaker is the best available. It will make the best sound for an original midyear radio IMHO, it sure did for mine.

You do learn something new everyday. There is a speaker for factory Air cars, it is about a 3/4 of an inch smaller in length to fit the air duct under it, no one makes them, I found one in my attic of my garage and I am taking it to Carlisle Fri. to drop it off for a recoaning

I reflect the same of opinion of both these guys. Have used S/M Electrotech many times for radio repair and.....speakers.

I don't know his name but I see him at Carlisle in the spring and fall. Here is the difference left non A/C midyear. Right A/C midyear.

The AC speaker for sure is lower than the AC speaker

I put a non original speaker in my AC dash and there was no problem in doing that(a little tight where the center duct is)

Would it be possible to measure the depth of the AC speaker?

Although the original a/c speaker is flatter, a standard speaker will fit with a little modification. I was unwilling to spend the big bucks for the correct a/c speaker. The center air duct is the culprit when trying to fit a standard speaker. I was able to bend the metal portion of the speaker into a slight curve so it would fit around the center duct. It takes a little trial and error and is much easier with the dash completely disassembled but it can be done. If you are going aftermarket make sure it is the right dimensions for an air car.

There was no change in sound quality. It sounds just as bad as a standard speaker.

Can anyone point out where in the AIM it calls out a different speaker for a C60 car?

It doesn't - as with anything else in the Assembly Manual, the U69 (radio) section assumes that the rest of the car is a "base car" with no other options. If you look at the listing of ECL codes for U69 (see Noland's book, '67 U69 option section), note that there are two unique ECL codes for both WITH and WITHOUT C60; if you had access to the Engineering Parts List (which we don't) and checked the option parts list for both of those ECL codes, you'd find that the one for WITHOUT C60 has the speaker part number shown in the A.I.M., and the the listing for the WITH C60 ECL code shows the 7282256 speaker part number instead.

Alternate parts used with other options are seldom shown in the A.I.M. option sections; normally there's a "non-illustrated parts" sheet that refers you to the "Engineering Parts List" for alternate part numbers.

Default Thank you John

I always wondered what my NOS -256 speaker application was.

Hadn't noticed the lower profile vs the -156.

Never too old to learn something here!

A continual learning process for most of us, I believe. My problem in later years seems to be more of the "Didn't I learn that a few months back?" nature. Don't seem to remember half of what I've known at one time or another . . . . . and they tell me it gets worse . . . . . .
