Default George Wintersteen drove his old Grand Sport 002 today

Today was Demo Day at the Simeone Museum in Philadelphia. One Saturday each month, the Museum will feature 3 or 4 cars from their collection, and run them on their back lot. The last Demo Day each year is a people's choice, where subscribers to the museum's website get to vote on which car's to remove from their displays, and run.

The 4 car's chosen this year where the 1964 Cobra Daytona Coupe, 1970 Porsche 917 LH Long Tail, 1966 Ford GT40 MK II, and Grand Sport Corvette 002.

As a special guess, George Wintersteen was there to drive Grand Sport 002, the same Grand Sport that he owned and raced in the 60's.

Below are pictures of George Wintersteen driving 002, the Cobra Daytona Coupe, the 917, and the GT40.

Love that 200mph GS002 speedo. My old Ferrari's went to 300, but that was kilometers per hour.

Wait a minute that's still over 180mph! Car was only good for 140 tops AIR. And I know the TIRES weren't!

That's just too cool, Sam. I'm envious!!!!

I was in, under, and all around #003 for several hours when it was undergoing a body-off refurbishing about 10 years ago. Learned a lot that day.

My bride, however, got to ride in #001 at Laguna Seca back in 2002. She's never let me forget it either!

Great photos - Thanks for posting!!!

What is it that is plugged in to the left rear fender of the Daytona Coupe, with a wire trailing out?

It's a GoPro camera, on a suction cup mount. If you look at the rear wing of the 917, and the rear deck of the GT, you will see the same camera and cable. I'm not really sure what the cable was for, unless it was a safety cable. I don't have anything like that for my GoPro. They had a number of GoPro's that they were moving from car to car, but only one had the cable on it.

When they mounted them on the Grand Sport, two of them came loose and went bouncing across the black top, the first time that Wintersteen jumped on it!

Hey guys! Those were my GoPros, and there was an external mic that the wire was leading to. I will have a video of the Corvette driving around soon. Sadly, the GoPro/mic fell off the Corvette when it was driving, but the side mounted camera stayed on.

Wow, what an amazing collection!
I'm embarrassed to say, that all the times I've been to Philly I never even knew that the museum was there, a must stop on the next trip.

Like having a wild beast cooped up in a tiny cage.

That car needs to be on a road course where it can really stretch its legs.
