Four Post Lift Questions
The garage edition has been completed and I am looking for a four post lift. My ceiling is now 11' 2" at the top of the middle peak of the ceiling. Will this allow me to stack the cars and also give me enough working height since I am about 6' 3". The lift has a height of 70". Below is a link to the lift I am looking at. Let me know you thoughts.
Thanks, Larry

I have a Benpak 4 post with 12 foot ceiling. I have easily fit a 63 Corvette on top and a 28 Model A Ford pickup on the bottom. You should also consider your garage door opener. Got one on the side? I don't have one and also put a high lift kit on for the tracks.
I also have room for my 74 inch tall woody on top and 63 verte on the bottom.

With an 11'2" ceiling you should have no problem but how high you can actually park the car will depend on the heigth of the one on top and where the latches hit on the lift. And that is provided the OH door is out of the way. On mine, I have to over-run on locking heigth about 2 inches to engage the locking pawls and then bleed off the pressure to fully rest the ramps on the locks.
I have an old AutoLifters lift (no longer around) that is basically the same design as Backyard Buddy. As an engineer I appreciated the tubular columns, machined locking stops, certified welders, American materials, and failsafe locking mechanisms over the open C-channel columns and welded on lock stops. Unfortunately it all turned out to be too expensive to maunufacture and be competitive with the overseas stuff.

I have 11 foot ceilings and I can stand under my 4 post easily and work on the cars. I am 6'1". I also can stack. I just moved the door lift motor and tracks as close to the ceiling as I could get them. I also positioned the door motor over the hood of the car rather than the roof, giving me more room. You should be fine. There is a pic in my garage photos.

I have a Danmar 4 post for my 69 and 62. I think its the same design as the one you are looking at and about the same cost. It stacks my cars no problem with my 11' 6" ceiling.. I am 6'5" and can just barely walk under it when all the way up. You will need a high rise special garage door and an opener with the motor mounting on the wall by the door. That cost me about $800 (installed). Also delivery is a problem because of the size and weight of the damn thing. You have to pay an installer to deliver it from the freight warehouse and set it up, or you need a fork lift and a few strong friends. Anyway, I love the thing and consider it one of my best buys.
