C1 steel reinforcing rivets - Part Numbers req'd
Hi all,
As part of my soda blasting prep for my 1960 body I've removed all of the reinforcing plates from the body - most were rusted. I know I can purchase small packets of rivets from Dr Rebuild and other parts suppliers for the 3/16 and 1/8 rivets - varying lengths BUT can anyone recommend a good supplier of rivets who sells them in bigger than packets of 10 (at what seems to be about $1/rivet - good profit margin there). I've had a look at the 'yard store' and they seem to be okay. ... and they sell rivet sets and bucks as well.
If anyone has any other suggestions as well as part numbers - OEM to manufacturer conversion numbers and what grade of solid rivets I need and approximate numbers would be fantastic. I know they need to be soft so they don't damage the fibreglass when peined over but more information would be helpful.
thanks in advance.

Mick,
They're aluminum, some flat head, some round head, based on the location. Boxes of 50 at Zip is what I use. I cut them with a nipper if needed shorter.

I also removed all of the reinforcement plates from the underbody of my '63 when I started a frame-off on it a few years back. I found Paragon Reproductions to be a great source for the rivets in a variety of sizes and quantities.
https://www.paragoncorvette.com/p-35...rivet-316.aspx
Using their website I was able to determine the exact rivet called for on each plate and ordered accordingly. Most of the plates utilize the same size rivets in any case, so it doesn't involve many different sizes you will need. I ended up ordering them in quantities of a hundred assuming that I would destroy more than a few when installing them. As it turns out once we got the hang of it the installation process was quite simple and we destroyed very few.
I believe that John Z has posted a great write up on the process and following his guidance it was almost a breeze once you assemble the necessary tools.
Good luck... GUSTO

Rivet identification
Rivet Identification Code.docx
So from the charts, I detucted that the rivets required are:
A1100-F (for aluminum - soft rivets - non alloy)
Countersunk 3/16" x 9/16" Code AN426A or MS20426A
Round Head 3/16" x 9/16" Code AN430A or MS2043A
Round Head 1/8" X 3/8" (" ")
But after all of that I'm going to go with ZIP or Paragon because the postage was going to kill me.
This company JAY-CEE did have all the rivets required and at a good price ... if you live in the US.

Jason at Jay-Cee emailed me and said select local pick up and they'll then work out the cheapest shipping method ... $24 (rather than $109) ... much better.
Also bought the rivet sets and bucks from the Yard Store at a very good price with very reasonable shipping.
