Remember corvettes at Dover speedway
Dose anyone remember back in the 70's when if you had a corvette you got in free at Dover speedway. Dose anyone have any pics. A friend of my girl friend took a bunch of pics but they broke up . She's got the pics and no one knows where she is at now.

I remember it well!
They did it every year in the late 70's/early 80's, at the spring (May) Winston Cup Race. I'm pretty sure that it was the Free State Corvette Club, that hosted the event. They actually made a full weekend out it, with a Saturday Corvette show in the parking lot of the mall next door, a rally Saturday night that ended at the Dover AFB Officer's Club, the parade on the oval Sunday morning, and a Corvette Corral inside turn 3 for the race on Sunday. It was always a fun weekend, but to do remember it raining a few times.
I went from around 78, till 81 or 82. I camped at the track a few times, and stayed with the couple that ran the event once. I can't recall their names, but he owned a trucking company, and would bring a flat bed trailer to the Corvette Corral, for everyone to sit on. When he heard a friend and I were coming for the weekend, he insisted that we stay at his house. I understood he was still in the club a few years ago, but had replaced the collection of solid axles he had back then, with a collection of Corvette Pace Cars now.
I have slides of the Dover weekends, from around 79-80-81(?) If I can get a chance, in the next few days, I'll dig them out and post some.
