New menber with certain old problems
Hi Folks,
my name is Uwe, I am a German and I bought my dream 67 427 Coupe last year. Since one year I am fighting with my old Lady to get the right timing, get rid of the surging and the missfire. Well, its pretty good now, only a little surging is around very low rpmīs.
The next time when I stay again in the Staates, I certain can solve that problem too. The threads belong to such problems helps me a lot, thanks to all.
Now I have a question: With how much NM do you have to tighten the oildrain screw and the screw which tightens the original oilfilter canister ?
I canīt find anything about that.
Hopefully somebody can help me.
Thanks
Uwe

Tighten until it's snug and no leaks.

Perhaps this is useful --
Sourced from the AIM (Assembly Information Manual), the oil filter canister bolt torque range is 20-25 ft-lbs.
Sourced from the Chassis Service Manual (engine mechanical section) the oil drain plug plug torque is 20 ft-lbs & the same document lists oil filter canister as 25 ft-lbs.
1 ft-lb = 1.35582 NM; thus, oil drain plug 27.1 NM & filter canister bolt 27.1 to 33.9 NM.

Ok, I was getting all ready to start the 25 page thread on Surging!
Oh well! Maybe I can start some controversy on twerking-- oops I mean torquing. Well, except for the engine, I am not an exact torque guy. If you have worked on stuff for as long as dinosaurs have been roaming the earth, then you kind of have a feel for your wrenches. But, Big But-- a torque rating is a good measure of the integrity of the parts. Thus I would torque the plug, but then take a wrench to see first if it is still loose. Then I would torque a second time and go the other way to see if I feel it should get a little more turning (to see if it is firmly seated). If the plug or bolt don't seem to be good, going in both directions, then maybe the threads are getting somewhat worn out. If I think it is, then I would try to replace the cheaper of the two which would be the plug and redo it.
I am kind of a perfectionist. Like with connecting rods bolts unless new bolts (those can get torqued), but if they are used, then I get out the bolt stretch checker!
Surging, what type of gas do they sell over there??
PS you don't have to actually promise a visit to get good feedback! Most of us would give you good advise knowing that you weren't visiting!

Uwe, Welcome and congratulations on your '67. We like pictures so you owe us some!
One note on the oil canister "square" O-ring seal. Always make sure you get the old one out before installing a new one. You can get oil leaks if 2 seals are installed.
What is your 427's HP?
If it is 400 or 435 HP your distributor vacuum advance vacuum source could be a issue.

Hi Corvette enthusiasts,
Thank you all for your welcome greetings. I appreciate that very much.
First I will put some pictures in my garage, so its not so empty.
Second I am happy to get the torque specifications, so I feel me more secure.
I am located in Florida and in Germany near by Frankfurt the Gateway to Europe.
May be there are some of you nearby.
Have a nice evening
Uwe
PS Where are the icons here?

Well with the gas in Germany our babies would ran like hell. I use there always Shell V-Power, it has 100 Octane.

the garage is filled
Itīs the 435 HP with aluminium heads. Yes, I read a lot about the vacuum advance source in the threads. That was very helpfull. I tried a lot of options back and force and coming still back to the original setup. I get rit of the most surging, when I found out that the flood level in main Holley was much to high. So the engine gots at a constant speed always some extra gas, because it swap over, again and again.
I was very happy to find that issue

Yes.. Nürnberg Germany
My keyboard doesn't have umlauts, and it always corrects itself to "Nuremberg", so I am done dealing with it.
Is your plan to bring your car to Germany... or just leave it in the US?
I brought mine over last fall, and have almost finished my restoration.

Wrong answer
But your idea would be great, when my car would be in Germany. But anyway, when you come to the Nürburgring, let my know. We find a nice car to race there

Heck, I saw you corrected your mistake!
But I will gladly take Rev's compliment. Thank you, even though it is his car! Heck if some pretty gal gets flowers without a note, I will step up and take credit for any such fouled up delivery by some other guy!
