63 door molding question - unique?
I’m restoring a 63 convertible. I’m missing the molding on the outside of the door, where the window opening is. The outer door glass seal screws go through the molding. Is this molding unique to a ’63?
I saw a ’63 coup today and the molding ran from the rear of the vent window to the rear of the door. Then I saw a convertible and the molding ran from the front of the door, under the vent window to the rear of the door, which seems common to the 64 – 67. Wondering if the convertible I saw was missing the molding too and just installed a later model year?
If the ’63 was a unique molding I expect it will be very difficult to find a replacement.
Thanks in advance for any reply

The convertible metal wipes go from the front of the vent window to the back of the door. The difference between the 63 and 64-67 is that the bead is smaller on the 63. These are impossible to find. The 64-67 will work fine, but will not pass judging. The 64-67 metal is also hard to find, but not impossible. Plan on using your platinum card!! Thanks for the quick reply and the picture Mike. As long as the car looks good and runs well I'm not worried about any other kind of judging.

My metal parts are good, but the rubber wipe has separated. Dont plan on fixing anytime soon....

I made my own rubber wipes out of Lowe's garage door weatherstripping....even used staples to attach them. The '63 door trim is made of unobtanium. You'll have to use '64 pieces.

If you look at your door trim pieces there are what remains of the spot welds that held the clips that were used to attach the stainless trim to the door frame. Then you will see the screw holes where the countersunk screws are used. The screws went through the rubber and seated flush inside the rubber. That GM rubber piece has a metal backing from my memory.
The clips must be plain steel and are usually long rusted away, mine look exactly like your pieces. My 63 car was built second week November 62.
