Default broken tach cable

I am working on a 66 coupe for a friend of mine and there is about 1/4 inch of the old tach cable broken off inside the tach. I removed it from the cluster but can not figure out any way to remove it. Does anyone know how to remove the needle from the gauge? thought if I took it apart I may be able to push it out from the back of the fitting. I don't want to break the needle trying to remove it.

Removing the needle wont get you access to it...

Maybe if you try a 'dental pick' in there, to hook it and pull it out...I think they or something similar are available at Harbor Freight...
