Default Question for list from new member

I am the new proud owner of a 1965 Coupe. Some one asked me why I had Three Tail lights instead of two and I don't know? I know it was an option on earlier cars.

I'll start. It was NOT an option on any C2. A previous owner has added the third tail light as a modification. Stock was either two taillights on each side, or one taillight and a backup light if the backup light option was included with the car. It was fairly popular in the sixties to add a taillight (and flare the fenders and remove the front bumper)

Welcome!

There are photographs of at least one California dealer with 67s on their lot with 6 tail lights, but those were dealer-installed, not a factory option of any kind.

Welcome to the forum!

Don't hesitate to fill out your profile, and post pics of your car! The gang of guys here are a great bunch (though some might pretend to be a bit grumpy at first), but you will find a whole lot of useful info once you get used to the mechanics of how the forum works and the personalities of it's inmates.

The search feature is pretty good...

6 tail lights

another 6 tail lights

there is a sticky somewhere about how to post pics (you need your own hosting service and then link to the location via the forum controls)...

So, lets see your car!

Yep, not a factory option.

Welcome, these grumpy guys are great here.

Posting pics is a requirement for new buyers - re-read the rules for posting.

The folks here have saved me a ton of money on avoiding errors, but they've also cost me a ton on discovering things I "need" to buy.

these two cars absolutely, positively came with all those tailights. Why would I lie about it?

Welcome to the Forum
It was a modification we used to do back in the '60's, not an option offered by Chevy.

You can see why guys did it back then. On Chevy's full size models, only the Impala, which was top of the line, had 6 tail lights. The cheaper BelAir and Biscayne only had 4. They just figured the Corvette deserved top of the line treatment.

Yep, I remember this line of thinking back in the day.

But, as has been said, this was not an available factory option.

Yup, a popular mod back in the day, as on my 63 Fuelie below, but not factory made.

I never thought it looked good. Why would I want to look like an Impala, yuk.

That's true . . . I'd much rather look like a Biscayne <LOL>.

But I agree with you. Three taillights is not my cup of tea on Corvettes but to each his own, I say.

Clippinger Chevrolet was the "California Six Tail Light" capital of the inland empire back in my day. They turned out hundreds of these "optioned" cars. Here is a shot of their lot:

What an absolutely great picture! Brings back a flood of memories of car salesmen and their dealerships not to mention the cars themselves many of which survived better than the salesmen or the dealerships. Damn, I wish it was 1975 and I could have another chance to buy all the $1500.00 67 BBs I was offered and was too smart to buy. Oh well.

Welcome to the asylum, I mean forum. Personally, l could see why some added that 3rd light on a 64-66 car. I know most did it for looks but in reality there's not much light coming from one little red lens on each side with an incandescent bulb. At least now we have the option of converting to an LED which is one of the first (and easiest) things I added after buying my car. What a difference!

That's Bob Wingate, probably the best Corvette salesman that ever filled out a car order; and he's still up and running!

That's cool! Still working for the same dealership, or retired?

Where is Bob now? I'd sure like to say hello. We used to live in Covina, and my father in law who owned the Covina Bowl used to buy his cars from Clippinger. They were right down the street from where we lived.

Bob
