Ok guys, here is another automatic car that blows me away that it hasn't sold yet. The options (pasted below) on this car are impressively nice and very uncommon. So, is the auto transmission such a downer to so many prospective buyers that it's keeping this car from being sold too?
"Rare optioned California 1966 Corvette with hard and soft tops. One year only, Mosport Green, paint. Matching numbers 327 300 hp automatic with Holley 4 bbl carb and factory AC, power steering, Kelsey Hayes knock off wheels, factory side pipes, head rests, shoulder harnesses, am/fm radio w/ power antenna, brand new BF Goodrich Goldline radial tires with 4 wheel disc brakes. New battery. Runs strong, sounds awesome. Miles read 76k."

If 40% of the pollees (which is a lot if you ask me) are okay with an auto transmission I just wonder why these nice examples (2 above), and many more out there) aren't sold. Is the market for C2's softening (I personally don't think so, but then again I'm not an expert in this market)? Are the sellers trying to sell while there is still snow on much of the country? Are the colors (mosport green and sunfire yellow) that much of a deterrent?
I just don't understand why these beautiful classics (I'm talking about these 2 examples specifically and classic corvettes as a whole) aren't selling as well as I think they should. Is there another thread that discusses this topic in more detail?
What are your thoughts?

I think only 6 people voted... I'd wait until it cooks a little longer.

I just cheeked the results and right now the results are 60% saying they would not buy a C2 with an automatic transmission and 40% saying they would buy a C2 with an automatic transmission.

They are harder to sell simply because MOST C1 and C2 buyers want a manual. Sellers simply have to wait to find a buyer that WANTS an auto. I don't think there are many people out there that don't have a strong opinion either way as in not caring if it is auto or manual. I think there are cases of buyers that have to sell the idea of buying one of these cars to their wife MAY have to compromise with the auto trans to get the wife's OK.
The price guides I look at show a 10% deduct for manual trans. I would use this in valuing like condition/equipped cars. Remember this when YOU decide to sell it. In the future an auto MAY become more desirable (due to millennials buyers) and if so you will likely win in the $s department. OTOH, people that absolutely won't buy an auto trans are not going to give your car a 2nd look so what difference does it make to you?

$70,000 for a base engine car.....maybe THAT is the problem! And in the case of the Mosport car (I happen to love that color), the seller’s
price is “firm”. Auto trans, base engine and a “firm” overpriced number.....its easy to see why that car hasn’t flown off the shelf.

The 300 h.p. engine that became the base engine in 1966 is NOT the problem, it is a MUCH better engine than the previous years base engine of 250 h.p. The problem is that the seller is overpriced by about $6K. I think he is putting a premium on the color. Color is a funny thing, people think SOME colors command a higher price. I don't believe so and think many people DO let the color of a car influence them, after all, we are a visual society. I have owned a Mossport green car and really like the color unlike other colors of green. The fact remains it is GREEN and many people simply will not buy a green car.

I would pay a premium for any of the green early Corvettes. Especially a Cascade Green '60. Glen Green '65, Mossport '66, or Goodwood '67 are all classy colors IMO....and blow the doors off of 'red'. And I have a Roman Red '61!!

I have currently have two red Corvettes. I like the color of both of them. Since I had the red 57 first in a perfect world for me the 65 would be Nassau blue. However, I bought the 65 based on many things such as originality, condition, etc. so the color was a secondary thing but not very many people will say they don't like a RED Corvette.

On the ebay side of things the seller seems odd. Knick-knack seller of nickel and dime things. None auto related. I've never seen so many "No longer a registered user" transactions.
