WOW!

I missed this post! This is pretty cool! I think this is the first "buy" (at least that I know of) from somebody using this thread.

I appreciate you guys keeping it going as well! Hope to be back in the hunt someday, until then, I'll keep postin' what I find.

A note of feedback for fans of this thread. The silver / silver two top 65 L79 convertible out of Gulf Shores AL shown below now resides in So CAL, proudly owned by a new mid-year enthusiast. We found the car via this thread, and pursued it, got all the necessary photos, found a local inspector who gave a good report. Bought it without in person inspection by the buyer. Had it hauled out, and found it to be a solid honest car, accurately described, and very fairly priced by a motivated seller. Bottom line, there are good cars out there to be bought, and this thread works. Happy hunting people!

Default a more affordable 57 in Vegas, $52,500

https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/5933518916.html

in Las Vegas for more than 40 years. In that time, it has had a cosmetic facelift (paint and interior) The Venetian Red and Polo White paint is bright and in generally good condition; the red vinyl upholstery is free of any rips or tears and looks terrific; and the engine, a 327 CID V8 from a 1969 Impala donor, is dependable and strong. The 4 speed Muncie M-21 transmission shifts easily and there is no clutch wear.

I went to see the one listed as Cleona. Engine pad was a little confusing, decent car that needs paint, he just rebuilt the carb, got it in a trade, seller is nice enough.

Thanks for the comments VWtdi....

In what way was the pad confusing? I always thought the 327/250hp Auto would be safe from faking... but I guess times are a changin'

The vin side looked good, the assembly date side had an HE suffix which would have been a 4 sp car. He told me he was putting on a lift in the next couple of days so I told him to look at the numbers on the tranny to see if there was a vin derivative on it. He's also working on getting the headlight motors going.

The car has been sitting for a couple of years and needs some tlc.

This car has been on here a few times already. First time in post #506 then again in #546. This is an original 3spd car. The stamp is original as well. I looked at it the first time that it was listed for sale. Here is the first description from the long time owner and my opinion.

"327 cid/250HP Convertible with Power Glide automatic. Non-matching numbers. Frame replaced in the 1990s. Transmission converted by previous owner.
4 wheel disc brakes. Stainless brake calipers, brake lines, gas line, and exhaust.
Leather seats. Dash pads in great condition. All instruments work except clock. Clock had been cleaned and was working. Teak steering wheel. Convertible top was replaced and is in excellent condition. Posi-traction differential. Needs cosmetics. I have owned this car sense 1982. Previous owners family purchased car in 1967."

This car is local to me so I went to take a look. Frame was replaced with one modified from a C3. Car was originally a 3spd and the original color was silver. The tranny is long gone as well as the original console and pedal assembly. The original motor. Decent older interior. Body was very nice. But the car really needs paint. It also has bubbling near the master cylinder area. So an issue to be dealt with with after stripping. The problem is that after paint the so so chrome will no longer look so so. Same with the older interior. Which leads down a very slippery slope. Ending up with way too much money in a very base model car.

I passed at $32K because of the frame change and I know that I could not have left it alone.

Well the engine is the original. But the transmission and the frame have been changed.

So what matches? The fact that neither the tranny nor the frame are original makes them match, I guess.
