Since the rear end is not original already, what are you looking to replace it WITH? Obviously you are not going to find THE original one. Is it just a case of the gear ratio? If it's a NOM car already I suppose it would be a driver?

It would not be THE rear end but it would be "period correct" as per Steve0415's post #960 in fact I had already found a used FA earlier tonight...
AT 3.08:1 Positraction 4-Speed (396/427)
AU 3.36:1 Positraction 4-Speed (396/427)
AZ 3.55:1 Positraction 4-Speed (396/427)
FA 3.70:1 Positraction 4-Speed (396/427)
FB 4.11:1 Positraction 4-Speed (396/427)
FC 4.56:1 Positraction 4-Speed (396/427)

It looks like it's all for naught anyway as the seller emailed me back that he now has a deposit so I no longer have to concern myself about how many things this one ... didn't have.

So its probably best to buy a car for what it is "today", and not for what it "might have been". If you can back up "today's representation", with sound documents and numbers... all the better.

The only thing wrong with a NOM, in my opinion, is paying a #s Matching price for it.

If the seller gave an honest accounting of that car it was a very nice buy for anyone looking for a 65 BB. Word of advice. Nice honest examples like that one will move quickly. Be ready.
Ps. Kinda splitting hairs with that whole rear diff thing on a nom car

Just like with women - there's a lot out there, and sooner or later you will find the right one.

(And it's still fun to test drive the ones that you DON'T wind up with! )

That is what I had thought as well so I was surprised to see that it had languished out there on the market for over 3 months prior. When I spoke with him on the phone this seller said that he had traded for it 6 months ago and although he had a lot of people looking and even some placing deposits over that period, they had all backed out. I did observe that he had not mentioned the NOM rear rear in any of the current listings so that may have been why knowledgeable potential buyers may have backed out once they discovered that...perhaps? No matter, the BB was not actually my primary objective. It just looked like a good buy at the price point.

My primary target is for a '67 rag top built on September 7th, 1966 as I am trying to find one who's body was "born" on the same day as my wife was. If I can find such a critter in ANY condition and reasonably priced, I will be buying it. Since that may be an un-realistic objective, I am also considering '66 rag tops as well. Small block NOM is plenty and no block is even OK as our preferred engine would be a LS3 Crate and I would likely be replacing suspension with modern and other things as the years go by... basically a project car that still looks good on the road which I can take out anytime I might be feeling playfull... a lot like my wife LOL

Hey guys..

Looking for cars is kind of an addiction for me.... While I'm not really back in the hunt... to buy.... (Not til' oil stocks recover anyway... ;( )

But If i can help anyone else find something, or at least entertain the folks here with a post, that makes me happy and is kind of like an "assist"... and a win for me.

And again, hats off to all the folks that keep this thread going!

Well since this thread started in October 2014, and has almost 1,000 replies, I'd say that qualifies as "on going".

it couldn't remember Sticky ,must be my week for people picking things apart on what ever I say.
