Sure, a total save is always the goal, but given the kind of power this thing has, it's safe to say this bit of news could have turned out a whole lot worse.

its the chance you take when you enter the track.

Just before it goes way sideways it looks like the steering broke. If you watch he isn't steering the car any more a little after the second time the front end bounced off the ground well before he hit the foam block and it drove right where the front wheels were pointed...into the guardrail.

Hopefully the damage was minimal...but compared to what it could have been if it were not for the excellent battle he put up....

That's crazy!!!!!!!!!! NICE SAVE. Period. end of story. I love the fact he was racing a 69 Camaro, as I have one of those too.....and it's white with hugger orange stripes too....but no hood scoop...lol....ARA

Interesting possibility. I was wondering why at that point he wouldn't have just let off the brakes and steered right and turned away from the left side guard rail...Seemed like after all he went through to right the ship that this was the easiest part to do....Unless like mentioned above, the timing box wedged in and he couldn't turn the wheel..It did seem to be wedged in there pretty good.

He should have never got back in the throttle, after the first correction. Not even if the prize money was more than the car, which I highly doubt. He had lost the race by the 60ft timer. JMHO. Ron B.

Did the throttle save him?
Question for someone with drag racing experience: In a high horsepower, wide tire car like that, when he loses it, is there a certain point where you gun the throttle in hopes to save it? What's the book say?
Most pedestrian drivers will ride the brakes all the way.
So, what's the strategy?
Thanks in advance.
