Original VIN Tag on 1964 Convertible
I found a C2 Project I'm interested in but not sure if this car is a real C2 or was put together. The sellers has a title showing its a 1964 Corvette but the vin tags on the car are not original and look like the same as if a car was re-taged due to being registered in another state.
Is there anywhere else on the car you can verify the car is real (frame, inside fender, etc.) or the original vin tags are it?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks

To add to this, the engine thats in it is a 305 V8, not original of course.

Do a search in this section on "VIN tag" or something similar - we have had several threads and there are lots of pics available.

Too me, this is a clear sign (without seeing the vin plate) that the car was possibly a theft recovery at sometime in the past. Then someone, past or present owner applied for a title and that required the DMV to issue a replacement vin plate. Personally, I would not touch the car. Dennis

Yeah, frame verification aside, if a state issued a new state VIN tag and that number matches the title, whether it was a wreck, theft recovery or whatever, thats the car's VIN now, not what it used to be. State tags are not affixed due to being "registered" in another state; there's usually damage to the car or at least the VIN plate. It will come up at resale time.
