Keith,
With a Chevelle or Chevy II, those are a specific model just like a LeMans BUT the GTO was a different model. Like I said earlier the GTO was an option in 64 & 65 for the LeMans model. In 1966 GTO was it's own model.

Rick
But no difference in making a 67 Malibu into a L78 Chevelle SS. it gets worse with 69-70 Chevelle SS cars. Some people can restore a car into a clone that is really well done and you can only tell by the vin and trim tag. Then there are the people who just slaps on emblems and calls it that. Then there's the group who restores a clone and then buys real SS vin and trim tags and installes them

I have no clue what the car is in question is. But it's very foolish to believe people don't clone collectable cars In sure if Frank ask this on the GTO forum the same questions will be asked And for very good reason. I know it is on the Chevelle forum.

From 65-68 Chevelles SS had there own vin along with Chevy II's But people still clone them and try and pass them off as real

Wow ... what a find. 67 To me was the best of the best. Add folding top, four speed, and great color it would bring over twenty all day long. Where would you find another one ?
My dad was ready to sign the papers on a 65 red / white interior & vinal roof , three carburetors , with an automatic. ( with my coaching of course.) The salesman talked him out of it citing winter driving, insurance cost, high octane gasoline, and frequent tune ups. Later of all things he bought a Mercedes Benz diesel.

Frankie,

As mentioned take a good look at the frame. My '64 convertible came out of Missouri...... unless you want to do what I'm doing here, check it out good.

Beautiful car though.

Frankie:

Nice find. If you end up with it you will have an even greater collection of the best GM ever made.

Turns out one of my Corvette buddies, who has lived in the local area all his life, says he knows this particular car....(a little weird) but he hasn't seen it in years.

I'm gonna get the full story tomorrow night at Old Town if the weather holds up for a cruise there.....

An old thread but I'm asked about this GTO once in a while.

Its gone.....the housebound lady owner passed away and the nephew had it shipped back to Ohio as he sold it to a friend of the family.

I'm OK with that, a much better alternative to rusting away in a humid Florida garage...

Well, I'm sorta OK with it

Crap, Frank. I am definitely not OK with it....That car is what brought you to the GTO forums and how we met in the first place.....before I even had a Corvette, which you helped out with immensely when I located a '61 shortly after you asked me about the '67. I have never seen this thread, a lot of wrong information at the beginning, but it mostly got corrected. That indeed was a very rare car, with all the goodies, like the hood tach, wood wheel, 4 speed, etc. If raced as it was, probably an H.O car.....if one of the handful of Ram Air cars, worth a mint. As it sat, I would have given 25-35k for it in a heartbeat. Spruced up, it's a 70-100k car all day long. Hope it shows up again. Thanks for the update. Hell of a way to start a weekend, though!

I don't think I every really had a shot at it frankly....Jeff...
The deceased owner's sister (and caretaker) said its a done deal. I made one last offer but I could see that it wasn't gonna happen...

Oh well!

So it is back up in my neck of the woods. I'll keep an eye out for it. It's back just in time for the grand re-opening of Dragway 42!

Frankie, I just went through something similar on a '65 GTO convertible. One of my subcontractors said last fall that his mother-in-law had some cars she wanted to sell, including a Mayfair Maize '65 vert with A/C, auto, and only 42,000 miles. Ran a couple years ago, but needs paint and a complete restoration. The price was $28,000 It literally took about 4 months to finally get to see it. I was a little disappointed in the condition when I saw it, as it was not stored in the best of conditions, and everything was flash-rusted over (even the interior parts). Still, I thought it was a worthy car, but thought $25,000 was more in line, and was ready to offer that. Then the "son" showed up. He evidently got on the internet and figures that nice convertibles are going for $100,000, so now the price is $40,000. I said thanks, but no thanks. (Jeff, I'd like your opinion on that.)
Here's an idea of what the car's condition is:

If it's all there and cranks, and is otherwise as described I would guess low teens. I'm thinking - rock solid four speed black convertible is a plus, but it can't be cheap to really make it stand tall. Let us know how you fare!

I'm a little out of the loop on pricing as I bought a legitimate complete minus engine ram air III hood tach '70 project for $500 15 years ago.
This one is worth a crap load more than $500.

I truly don't know what's more ridiculous, that you wasted bandwidth replying to a comment I made over two years ago - one where I wasn't remotely implying it was a $500 car- OR that I'm bothering to reply to you...

At least I got to sit in it in exchange for pushing it out of the driveway to the trailer!

Its going back to a family member - so, its going home for real basically. 17,000 miles on the speedo - supposedly the actual mileage
Factory power windows too!
Can't say on the dual spotlights - don't remember those from the factory..
